Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050. Supports the business by using Microsoft programs, GIS and earthwork/water modeling software applications to provide assistance in developing and tracking tailings deposition, water removal plans and water delivery strategies. Help track short and long term KPI’s for tailings and water systems, supports tailings and water monitoring and instrumentation troubleshooting, QA/QC and safe work plans for tailings and water management. Ensure all consultants, contractors and vendors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine procedures Adheres to relevant regulations, laws, standards and procedures Perform tasks with high regard to safety of self and the team. Assist the Tailings and Water department and engineers with day-to-day tasks and assignments. Manage and oversee data and document tracking of daily, weekly and monthly system performance. The Junior Tailings and Water Engineer will perform the following tasks (including but not limited to): Assist with implementation of Capstone’s Tailings Management System to achieve good practice Tailings and Water Monitoring System oversight. Assist with developing maintenance plan and troubleshooting of the instrumentation, ie. Piezometers, Inclinometers, prisms, transducers, flow meters and radar scanning. Assist with legacy asset upgrades and replacement. Maintain a database of monitoring instrumentation details, ie. Date installed, type of instrumentation, depths, etc. Collect data from the monitoring system for analysis, evaluation and for KPI tracking. Implement and track QA/QC plans for tailings and water management. Assist with implementing and tracking plans to meet industry and global standards. Assist with internal inspections of TSFs and document. Assist with tracking and document control of recommendations from internal and external inspections. Assist with report preparation and document control for required state agencies. Work with the permitting department to provide monitoring data for agency reporting. Assist with EAP and OMS document control. Support initiatives to optimize existing business systems, processes, practices, and equipment to improve the overall performance of the function Assist with the implementation of industry and global tailings standards and reporting Behave in a way that demonstrates support of Capstone’s Vision and Values: Always Accountable, Execute with Excellence, Deliver Results and Work Responsibly Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required POSITION REQUIREMENTS Required High School Diploma or equivalency with a Bachelor’s degree obtained within 4 years in one of the following: Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Mine Engineering. Minimum of two years’ experience working within the field of tailings or water to include but not limited to consulting/design/engineering/construction/operations. Successfully completed in-house testing and certifications when required Proven ability to operate independently and in small multi-discipline teams, demonstrated leadership skills, and be self-motivated Strong interpersonal and communication skills required Strong time management skills required Intermediate to Proficient computer skills (All Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD Civil3D, Muk3D, Flow2D, ArcGIS) SAP experience (familiarity with SAP planning module, Asset Management a plus) Valid Arizona Driver's License Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English Preferred 0-2 years in the field of water or tailings or relevant engineering field WORK ENVIORNMENT 40% of the time will be spent assisting the tailings and water engineers on data management, strategies, plans and schedules; with the remaining 60% spent in the field All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
