About the RoleTrilogy NextGen is hiring a Junior Java / AI Developer to support one of our financial-services customers in Charlotte, NC.
This role is designed for a recent graduate, fresher, or early-career developer who has strong Java fundamentals, exposure to Spring Boot, and a genuine interest in modern AI-assisted software development.
We are especially interested in candidates who are already using tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar AI platforms as part of how they learn, code, troubleshoot, and build.
This is an opportunity to grow at the intersection of:
- Java / Spring Boot development
- Generative AI
- LLM integration
- Prompt engineering
- GitHub Copilot
- Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Enterprise software development
- Develop and enhance backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and consume REST APIs.
- Work with SQL databases and basic enterprise integrations.
- Use GitHub Copilot and other AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day engineering.
- Write and refine prompts for:
- Coding
- Testing
- Debugging
- Documentation
- Code understanding
- Simple AI-enabled workflows
- Assist with integrating LLM APIs into enterprise applications.
- Learn how Model Context Protocol (MCP) can connect AI assistants to approved tools, APIs, documentation, repositories, and other context sources.
- Test AI-generated output and help identify where better prompts or better context improve results.
- Write unit tests and support application testing.
- Fix defects and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Participate in code reviews and Agile development activities.
- Work with experienced engineers and progressively take ownership of features.
- Ask thoughtful questions when requirements are unclear rather than simply building the wrong solution faster.
- 0–2 years of professional software-development experience.
- Recent graduates and freshers are encouraged to apply.
- Strong Java fundamentals.
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming.
- Exposure to or working knowledge of Spring Boot.
- Understanding of REST APIs and web services.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Experience with Git through:
- Professional work
- Internships
- Academic projects
- Capstone projects
- Personal projects
- Hands-on familiarity with GitHub Copilot or another AI coding assistant.
- Familiarity with LLMs and Generative AI.
- Ability to write clear prompts and experiment to improve AI-generated results.
- Strong problem-solving and learning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Ability and willingness to work onsite in Charlotte, NC.
- Java / Spring Boot internships or co-op experience.
- GitHub or personal projects involving Java.
- Projects using OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or similar LLM APIs.
- Exposure to:
- MCP
- RAG
- Embeddings
- Vector databases
- AI agents
- Experience using AI for software-development productivity.
- Banking or financial-services exposure is helpful but not required.
We are looking for someone who already thinks of AI as part of the modern engineering toolkit.
You should be curious about questions such as:
- Why does one prompt produce better code than another?
- What context does Copilot need to give a better answer?
- When should you trust AI-generated code, and when should you validate it?
- How can AI assistants safely interact with tools and systems through MCP?
- How can AI make a developer more productive without weakening engineering fundamentals?
You do not need to be an AI expert.
We want someone who is curious, hands-on, willing to experiment, and capable of learning quickly.

No C2C. We will not respond to or entertain C2C, third-party consulting, subcontracting, or agency submissions.
