The role is particularly suited to candidates who have a strong technical foundation, with hands-on Python and Linux/UNIX experience, combined with exposure to electronic, algorithmic or high-frequency trading. You will be close to the trading technology, working on live production systems, investigating issues and using code to automate and improve operational processes.
We are particularly interested in candidates with 2 to 3 years of experience who want to move further into the technology and quantitative side of trading.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor live automated trading strategies and identify unusual behaviour, system issues and potential risk or compliance concerns.
- Work directly with quantitative traders and software engineers to support live trading and production systems.
- Investigate and troubleshoot production issues across Linux/UNIX-based trading environments.
- Use Python extensively to automate operational processes, build tooling and analyse trading and market data.
- Analyse logs, system outputs, trading activity and market data to identify problems and help determine root causes.
- Support the reliability and smooth operation of automated trading systems during live market hours.
- Develop monitoring, alerting and automation tools to improve the efficiency of the trading environment.
- Respond quickly to production issues and work with engineering and trading teams through to resolution.
- Identify repetitive or manual processes that can be automated using Python.
- Develop a detailed understanding of the firm's trading systems, strategies, market connectivity and operational workflows.
Required Experience:
- 2-3 years of experience within HFT, electronic trading, algorithmic trading, trade support, trading operations or a closely related environment.
- Strong hands-on Python experience, particularly around scripting, automation, data analysis and building operational tools.
- Strong practical knowledge of Linux/UNIX, including command-line tools, processes, logs, system monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with live production trading systems or other highly time-sensitive production environments.
- Ability to investigate technical issues independently and identify root causes.
- Strong understanding of trading data and the ability to analyse large or complex datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another relevant technical discipline.
Desirable Experience:
- Previous experience within a high-frequency trading, proprietary trading, market-making or quantitative trading environment.
- Experience supporting automated or algorithmic trading strategies.
- Strong understanding of futures markets, electronic exchanges and market structure.
- Experience with production monitoring, alerting or incident management.
- Experience analysing trading logs, market data or system performance.
- Additional programming experience beyond Python, particularly C++ or shell scripting.
- Experience working closely with quantitative researchers, traders or software engineers.
- Exposure to low-latency trading infrastructure or market connectivity.
Ideal Candidate:
You're a technically minded trading professional who enjoys understanding how systems work, investigating problems and getting close to the technology behind electronic trading.
You have strong Python and Linux skills and are comfortable working in a production environment where issues need to be identified and resolved quickly. You may currently be working in HFT, electronic trading or technical trade support and are looking for a role with greater exposure to trading technology, automation and quantitative strategies.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build a career at the intersection of trading, software and technology, working directly with experienced traders and engineers in a genuine HFT environment.
