Is this job info correct?

They are a well-established, employee-owned engineering and consulting firm with a strong presence across Michigan and a reputation for delivering practical, community-focused solutions. They operate as a multidisciplinary partner to public and private sector clients, bringing together expertise across civil engineering, surveying, planning, landscape architecture, transportation, traffic, municipal, environmental, and construction engineering services.

Their land development team supports a broad mix of projects, including commercial, retail, office, residential, mixed-use, education, healthcare, and senior living developments, with in-house capabilities spanning site planning, utility design, grading, paving, stormwater management, permitting, feasibility studies, traffic-related design input, and sustainable site strategies.

They are known for a collaborative and cross-functional approach, working closely with developers, owners, architects, municipalities, and internal technical teams to move projects efficiently from concept through approvals and into delivery. They also maintain multiple offices across Michigan, including Detroit and Grand Rapids, giving them strong regional coverage and local market visibility.

Role Overview

They are looking to appoint a Land Development Project Manager to lead and grow a portfolio of civil land development work from either their Detroit or Grand Rapids office. This person will take ownership of project delivery while also playing a visible role in client management, business development, and team leadership. The position is suited to someone who can manage complex engineering efforts with minimal oversight and who is comfortable balancing technical execution with commercial responsibility.

The successful candidate will help drive work across a range of active and emerging sectors, with particular relevance to education, healthcare, assisted living, commercial, retail, and office development. There is also clear scope for longer-term progression within their business for someone who can combine technical credibility with leadership and market-facing capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead land development projects from early planning through design, approvals, and delivery, coordinating engineers, designers, and other internal stakeholders
  • Manage project financial performance, schedules, resourcing, and quality standards to ensure successful outcomes for clients and their wider team
  • Oversee multidisciplinary collaboration with owners, developers, architects, municipalities, and approval agencies throughout the life of a project
  • Support business development efforts by strengthening existing client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and contributing to proposals, presentations, and interviews
  • Help plan team workload, forecast upcoming needs, and maintain a delivery structure that supports both budget and programme commitments
  • Represent them externally through networking, industry events, public meetings, and broader community engagement
  • Mentor, develop, and support junior team members while also contributing to hiring and team growth where needed
  • Contribute technical oversight on core land development elements such as site planning, utility design, grading, paving, stormwater systems, permitting, and related approval processes

Project Types

The role will involve a varied mix of land development assignments, which may include:

  • Commercial and retail developments
  • Office and mixed-use sites
  • Residential communities and subdivisions
  • Condominium developments
  • K-12 and higher education projects
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Municipal and community-focused site improvements
  • Sustainable site and green infrastructure design
  • Utility, grading, paving and stormwater improvement projects

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Michigan required
  • Approximately 5+ years of land development project experience required, with those bringing a deeper track record in managing more complex workstreams especially well suited to the role
  • Strong background in managing multidisciplinary project teams and delivering civil/site development projects with a high degree of independence
  • Experience building client relationships, pursuing new work, and supporting proposals or presentations would be a significant advantage
  • Working knowledge of land development design and permitting considerations, including agency coordination, municipal requirements, and site approval processes
  • Strong communication, organisation, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage both technical and commercial priorities

Benefits

They offer a supportive, employee-owned environment where people are encouraged to grow professionally, contribute to meaningful projects and take pride in the long-term success of the business.

  • Base Salary Range: $100k-$150k
  • Employee-owned structure, giving staff a meaningful stake in their long-term success
  • Flexible office / hybrid working options, with a culture that values work-life balance and trust
  • Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance available for applicable candidates
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, life, prescription, legal, and pet insurance options
  • 401(k) programme and broader long-term financial support
  • Ongoing professional development, including training, certifications, continuing education, and mentorship from experienced industry professionals
  • Paid time off, holidays, and supportive leave policies, alongside a team-oriented culture with strong community involvement
