Lead AI Engineer

About the Role

This is a hands-on Lead AI Engineer position at a legal AI company focused on building an AI-powered contract intelligence platform for enterprise customers. You will sit within a small, fast-moving product and engineering team, reporting directly to a founding-level leader, and carry significant ownership over both technical direction and shipped product.

What You'll Do

• Architect, develop, and own user-facing application features spanning back-end and front-end systems.

• Design and build intelligent AI solutions, including agents and pipelines, that power contract analysis at enterprise scale.

• Promote sound engineering practices and drive the team's technical strategy and roadmap.

• Define and implement measurements of success for the engineering team.

• Initiate and lead technical projects end-to-end, collaborating closely with product managers and designers.

What We're Looking For

• 8 or more years of overall engineering experience, with at least 4 years focused on AI/ML engineering or building AI products.

• Strong CS fundamentals, ideally backed by a CS degree.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience using PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases.

• Experience building AI applications and agents using frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen.

• Experience working with large language models from providers such as OpenAI or Anthropic, including model training and LLM monitoring.

• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools including Docker and Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows.

• Hands-on front-end exposure, for example with JavaScript, React, or comparable modern web frameworks.

• Background shipping production systems end-to-end in a small startup environment, with direct ownership of live product.

• SaaS startup experience is a strong plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $175,000 to $250,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is available.

Location

On-site in New York, NY, United States. Candidates must be based in NYC or genuinely willing to relocate.
