About the Role
Lead the compute, data, AI, and security infrastructure behind a biotechnology sequencing operation. You will own core systems that connect lab equipment, ingest and process sequencing data, and support reliable scientific workflows.
What You'll Do
Build and operate services that orchestrate lab devices, including robots, sequencers, and on-premises Linux servers.
Develop cloud infrastructure and data pipelines to ingest, process, store, and deliver large volumes of sequencing data.
Design queues, workflow orchestration, and scheduling systems to run bioinformatics tasks at scale.
Build AI infrastructure and internal tools for agents that monitor quality, coordinate logistics, and support adaptive bioinformatics analysis.
Lead cross-functional projects from problem framing through production, and mentor engineers on a small team.
What We're Looking For
At least 5 years of backend engineering experience building distributed systems with Python and AWS orchestration services such as ECS, Batch, or Step Functions.
Production experience with reliable queues, orchestration, and state machines, plus Python frameworks such as FastAPI or Django.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, and distributed task queues such as Celery or SQS.
Experience administering Linux servers, managing on-premises infrastructure, and applying security best practices across cloud and on-premises environments.
Experience at a startup during a scaling phase, from Seed through Series C, and a track record of leading projects and mentoring engineers.
A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent technical education.
Strong ownership and communication skills, with the ability to connect technical decisions to business impact and learn from scientific domain experts.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary: $205,000 to $235,000. Visa sponsorship is available.
