About the Role
Lead platform engineering for the compute, data, AI, and security infrastructure behind a biotechnology sequencing operation. You will work across software and scientific teams to build reliable systems that move sequencing data from lab devices through analysis and delivery.
What You'll Do
Own services that orchestrate lab devices, including robots, sequencers, and on-premises Linux servers, as well as the data ingestion pipeline.
Build AWS infrastructure and data pipelines to store, process, and deliver large volumes of sequencing data.
Design queues, workflow orchestration, and scheduling systems to coordinate millions of bioinformatics tasks.
Develop AI infrastructure and internal tools for agents that monitor operational quality, coordinate logistics, and support adaptive bioinformatics analysis.
Lead ambiguous cross-functional projects from concept through production, while mentoring teammates and contributing hands-on.
What We're Looking For
At least 5 years of experience in platform, backend, or infrastructure engineering, with strong individual contributor experience.
Strong AWS orchestration skills, including ECS, Batch, and Step Functions, plus Python backend experience with frameworks such as FastAPI or Django.
Experience building and operating reliable distributed systems, including queues, orchestration, and state machines, in production.
Linux server administration and distributed task queue experience, such as Celery or SQS.
Experience with ML infrastructure or training pipelines, and familiarity with current AI tooling; experience building LLM or agent systems is valuable.
Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers on small teams, including meaningful work at a startup scaling from early stage to later growth.
A degree in computer science, engineering, math, physics, or equivalent technical experience, and curiosity about biotechnology or scientific domains.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary range: $205,000 to $235,000. Visa sponsorship is available.
Location
Hybrid role based in South San Francisco, California, United States.
