About Us
Catholic Education NT operates 18 Catholic schools across the Northern Territory, from Early Learning to Secondary, including five colleges, seven primary schools, one flexible learning centre, and five remote schools. The Position
As a System-Wide Literacy Leader (formally titled Education Officer: Literacy), you'll provide system-level support to schools across Catholic Education NT, strengthening whole-school literacy through evidence-based instruction, data-informed practice, and high-quality curriculum support for educators in remote, regional, and urban school communities. You'll join the Teaching and Learning team, reporting to the Leader of Teaching and Learning.

The Position

As Education Officer: Literacy, you will:
- Support the implementation of the CENT Literacy Frameworks, Pedagogical Framework, and Instructional Model.
- Work with school leadership teams, teachers, and support staff across Aboriginal Catholic Community Schools and regional and urban primary and secondary schools to use data to set targets and improve literacy outcomes.
- Help schools choose effective intervention strategies and track student progress.
- Deliver professional learning to build teacher and assistant capacity in literacy across discipline areas.
- Provide whole-class instructional support through collaborative planning, team teaching, asynchronous learning, and formal and informal professional learning.
- Support educators to embed culturally responsive, trauma-informed strategies that meet individual student needs.
You'll need:
- A Bachelors or Masters qualification in Education.
- Eligibility for teacher registration in the Northern Territory.
- An Ochre Card, a current police check, and a current NT Driver's Licence, or the ability to obtain them.
- Willingness to travel to Aboriginal Catholic Community Schools, including remote travel by small plane and on dirt roads.
- School-wide or system-wide excellence and leadership in literacy instruction. You've led literacy improvement and can show the results.
- A history of leadership in curriculum planning, programming, and pedagogy, with evidence of improved learner outcomes.
- Experience using literacy across learning areas in the Australian Curriculum, in a range of phases of schooling.
- Experience using data to set targets, actions, and measures to improve literacy outcomes at instructional tiers 1, 2, and 3.
- The skills to design and deliver high-quality professional learning for teachers.
- High-level organisational, analytical, and conceptual skills.
- The ability to lead, support others, and be an active team member.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to support the culture and Catholic ethos of Catholic Education NT.
- Experience supporting literacy for students with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D).
- A postgraduate qualification in education.
- Understanding of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
