Maintenance & Asset Manager | Canadian Gold Mining
Northwestern Ontario | 5/2, 4/3 Rotation | Senior Site Leadership
I’m currently working with an established Canadian gold producer that is progressing a historic high-grade underground gold operation towards sustainable commercial production, while simultaneously advancing additional nearby deposits to support its longer-term growth strategy.
With modern infrastructure, an experienced workforce and a strong technical team, the operation is entering an exciting stage of development, creating an opportunity for a Maintenance & Asset Manager to play a key role in building and leading its maintenance function.
Reporting directly to the Mine General Manager, this is a senior site leadership position with accountability for the reliability, integrity and lifecycle management of the operation’s assets, including:
• Mobile mining equipment and heavy equipment
• Fixed plant and mineral processing equipment
• Mechanical systems
• Electrical systems and infrastructure
• Instrumentation and control systems
• Pumps, compressors, ventilation and dewatering systems
• Underground and surface infrastructure, buildings and facilities
A major focus of the position will be developing maintenance operating and capital budgets from first principles, based on the physical requirements of the operation and mine plan rather than simply extrapolating historical expenditure.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary maintenance organisation across mobile, fixed plant, electrical, instrumentation, reliability and planning functions
• Establish maintenance strategies aligned with mine and processing plans
• Drive improvements in equipment availability, reliability and utilisation while reducing unplanned downtime and repeat failures
• Develop and implement the site’s asset management and reliability strategy
• Establish asset criticality, risk-based maintenance and critical-spares strategies
• Develop equipment strategies across the full asset lifecycle, from specification and procurement through operation, rebuild, replacement and retirement
• Implement reliability engineering practices including RCA, FMEA, condition monitoring and defect elimination
• Establish disciplined maintenance planning and scheduling systems and optimise CMMS/EAM utilisation
• Lead shutdown, overhaul, equipment rebuild and replacement strategies
• Own maintenance operating and capital budgets, monthly forecasts and expenditure projections
• Build detailed annual and long-range budgets covering labour, parts, major components, rebuilds, contractors, consumables, planned maintenance and shutdowns
• Develop short, medium and long-term asset replacement and capital plans
• Lead repair-versus-replace evaluations and develop technically and financially sound capital business cases
• Provide senior mechanical engineering leadership and maintain appropriate engineering and technical governance
• Work closely with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain and Health & Safety
• Lead OEM, vendor, contractor and engineering consultant relationships
• Develop succession plans and technical capability across the maintenance organisation
• Maintain a strong culture of safety, accountability, proactive maintenance and continuous improvement
About You
Candidates must possess:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university
• Current P.Eng. designation in Canada, or eligibility for registration in the applicable Canadian jurisdiction
• MBA from a recognised institution
• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in the mining industry
• Demonstrated senior leadership experience within a mine maintenance and/or asset management function
• Experience across mobile mining equipment, fixed plant, electrical and instrumentation maintenance
• Demonstrated ability to develop maintenance operating and capital budgets from first principles
• Experience managing significant maintenance operating and capital budgets
• Strong understanding of the relationship between maintenance performance, equipment reliability, production, cost and mine economics
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• A proven record of integrity, accountability and reliability in leadership roles
Highly Desirable Experience
• Leading a large, multidisciplinary maintenance organisation
• Asset management and reliability strategy development
• Long-range equipment replacement, rebuild and lifecycle capital planning
• Reliability engineering methodologies including RCA, FMEA, condition monitoring and defect elimination
• CMMS/EAM implementation and maintenance planning and scheduling
• Major shutdown, overhaul and equipment rebuild programmes
• Equipment criticality and critical-spares strategies
• Equipment specification, procurement, commissioning and operational handover
• OEM, vendor, contractor and engineering consultant management
• Lifecycle-cost analysis, repair-versus-replace evaluations and capital business cases
• Underground mining experience
What’s on Offer
• Competitive base salary

This is an opportunity for a senior maintenance professional to take ownership of a critical function within a high-grade Canadian gold operation entering an important phase of growth and production.
If you have the technical, operational and commercial capability to lead maintenance at this level, I’d be very interested in speaking with you.
Candidates must be willing to complete a background check, pre-employment physical, and drug and alcohol test.
