Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Your Impact As the Manager, Asset Management, Fixed Plant , you will play a critical leadership role in one of the world's premier gold mining operations, driving the performance, reliability, safety, and sustainability of Lihir’s fixed plant assets. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead the asset management function, ensuring critical operational assets deliver maximum availability, productivity, and value while supporting Newmont's commitment to safety, operational excellence, and responsible mining. As part of our leadership team, you will: Provide visible and inspiring safety leadership, fostering a culture where safety, risk management, and critical control effectiveness are embedded in every activity. Lead the Fixed Plant Asset Management function, ensuring assets are maintained, operated, and utilised efficiently to maximise availability and performance. Develop and execute strategic asset management plans that align with site operational objectives and long-term business priorities. Drive asset integrity and lifecycle management initiatives across all fixed plant assets and equipment. Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs to optimise equipment reliability and operational performance. Monitor, analyse, and report on asset performance trends, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence. Lead and develop a high-performing team of superintendents, supervisors, technicians, operators, and contractors. Manage maintenance partnerships, contractor relationships, and external service providers to ensure safe and effective service delivery. Influence capital planning, cost optimisation, and business improvement initiatives that enhance asset performance and reduce operational risk. Contribute as a key member of the Lihir leadership team, supporting site-wide performance, culture, safety, and operational delivery. Prerequisites for your success in this role To thrive in this position, you will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership capability, and a passion for building safe, high-performing teams. Extensive experience in Asset Management, Fixed Plant Operations, Processing, Maintenance, or a related operational leadership environment. Experience in large-scale mineral processing or major mining operations will be highly regarded. Experience leading asset management transformation, operational excellence, or reliability improvement programs. Proven experience leading and developing large, multidisciplinary teams in a people-focused environment, with a strong track record of building capability and developing future leaders. Inclusive leader with a proven ability to develop, mentor and empower employees, fostering high-performing teams and bringing out the best in others. Strong experience in asset lifecycle management, maintenance strategy, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement programs. Proven ability to optimise asset performance, availability, utilisation, and operating costs. Experience developing and implementing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance frameworks. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related discipline desirable. Strong commercial acumen, including budget management, capital planning, and cost optimisation. Demonstrated capability influencing and engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including operational leaders, contractors, regulators, and business partners. Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental, and sustainability requirements within a mining or heavy industrial environment. Working Conditions This role is offered on a residential 5:2 roster, based in Newmont’s Lihir townsite community, a gated precinct based on the coastline cliff with magnificent ocean views. The townsite has Company provided housing (inc. utilities), international school (up to and including Year 10) and a range of recreational facilities including gym, sports club with restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and playground areas for the kids. There is also a 9-hole golf course on the island! Healthcare services are provided at the Lihir Medical Clinic. An onsite deli and café provide access to fresh local and imported produce including grocery items, as well as barista-made coffees and freshly baked cakes. The company offers regular shipment of groceries and care packages for townsite residents to access goods not available on the island. The Lihir fishing and boating clubs offer the opportunity to get out and enjoy the pristine waters and beaches around the island on the weekends.
