Mechanical Engineering Co-op Program The Mechanical Engineering Co-op Program with nVent’s Electrical Connections (E C ) Business is a structured experiential learning program that gives students the opportunity to couple their academic knowledge with practical situations in the workplace , and simultaneously allows nVent to evaluate students as potential direct-hire talent. The Program is rotational between various departments, including Product Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing , Labs and Compliance, and Digital Media Development . It is designed to engage students in the entire engineering process from development, through testing and applications, and to production. Students are assigned rotations and projects based on their academic levels and engineering capabilities and are given opportunities to champion these projects to completion and make significant contributions to existing processes. Our candidates are hands-on problem-solvers who are analytical, creative, and highly professional. We seek confident leaders who take the initiative to drive results. Depending on the degree and/or desired career path, co-ops will be placed into some combination of the following rotations. Applications Engineering: Co-ops work within a team of engineers who design and implement new products within existing product lines. Responsibilities may include: Performing engineering calculations to analyze product designs for functionality and specification accuracy Assisting with resolution of technical issues related to product design, system design, and compliance with industry standards Participating in site visits and working with end-user customers Participating and presenting in design review meetings Using 2D and 3D modeling software to create and maintain engineering documentation New Product Development: Co-ops gain exposure to new product design by participating in the conceptualization and development of innovative new products or modifications to existing products. Co-ops will learn the art of balancing engineering design, functional requirements, customer needs, and aesthetic appeal. Responsibilities may include: Fabricating and evaluating product concepts Assisting in creation of detailed drawings, 3D models, schematics, specifications, installation instructions, assembly prints, and test reports Utilizing analytical tools including Finite Element Analysis (ABAQUS) and Matlab Participating in site and supplier visits Participating and presenting in design review meetings Manufacturing Engineering: Co-ops work in one of our two Solon manufacturing facilities gaining direct exposure to the day-to-day operations of the plant. Responsibilities may include: Routing and BOM changes for products which are being manufactured on site Assisting with capital equipment purchases, maintenance improvements, and tooling improvements. Supporting process improvements projects including tooling design, working with outside vendors, assisting personnel on the manufacturing floor, and conducting time studies geared towards improving cost, efficiency, and safety. Engaging with the Quality department, including correcting and updating technical information on product drawings, designing gauges to be used for inspection and testing of product, and updating or creating documentation used for collection of inspection data. Supporting and understanding nVent’s Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles. As part of their manufacturing experience, co-ops will be immersed in Lean Manufacturing processes, improvements, events, evaluations, and projects. These include Kaizen events, Gemba walks, 5S events, TPM implementation, SMED Projects for set-up reduction, and CCF & MMF events. Labs and Product Approvals : Co-ops build and support test programs for EFS products. Responsibilities may include: Developing test plans to verify product design intent Supporting efforts to ensure product compliance with codes and standards Procuring and assembling materials, and conducting validation testing Designing and improving test fixturing Gaining hands- on experience using various prototyping equipment (3D prints, CNC, Laser cutter, etc.) Co-op Program Benefits: We value the opportunity to develop students' knowledge of our business, and offer a valuable benefits to our co-ops including - Opportunities to work alongside company and industry leaders possessing top educational and career credentials, as well as diverse backgrounds and experiences Rotation between several engineering departments and nVent EFS manufacturing facilities to experience the entire engineering process from development to production Interaction and collaboration with global teams Opportunity to practice classroom theories, and use experiences gained in the work environment to inform class choices and career goals Competitive hourly pay for time worked at an hourly rate of $25.00. Relocation and housing support is available for eligible candidates Co-ops receive paid time off , paid sick time, paid volunteer time, and paid holidays Co-ops who demonstrate outstanding performance may be offered a subsequent internship/co-op or full-time offer of employment with nVent Location: The Electrical Engineering Co-op Program is located in Solon, OH (Cleveland) You Have: Required Qualifications Pur s u ing an undergraduate degree in engineering, with a mechanical or mechanical engineering technology focus preferred. Currently enrolled as a full-time or part-time student at an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 Able to complete a full-time co-op for 8 months (semester and summer) in Solon, OH.
