Senior Network Engineering Lead | APAC | Sydney
Open to relocation
About the opportunity
I'm working with a global trading firm on a senior network engineering leadership hire for their Sydney office, which serves as their APAC hub. This is a high-impact, highly technical role owning the strategy and performance of a latency-sensitive global network, while building and leading the engineering team behind it.
This isn't a purely managerial seat. You'll need the technical depth to go deep with engineers, the judgment to negotiate priorities with trading and tech leadership, and the commercial awareness to talk risk and investment with senior stakeholders.
A full relocation package is available for the right candidate.
What you'll do
- Lead and grow a team of senior network engineers, setting a high technical bar
- Own network strategy across data centre, WAN and colocation environments globally
- Set architecture and design standards, balancing consistency with flexibility where performance demands it
- Work closely with trading and technology teams to shape infrastructure priorities and roadmap
- Weigh trade-offs between latency, resilience, risk and engineering effort
- Drive infrastructure-as-code, automation and CI/CD-driven deployment practices
- Provide technical leadership during major incidents and high-impact market events
What you'll bring
- A track record leading or technically guiding high-performing network engineering teams
- Deep experience designing large-scale, low-latency networks in data centre and colocation environments
- Strong grounding in network architecture, resilience, redundancy and performance
- Hands-on comfort with complex, multi-vendor production environments
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, configuration management and network automation
- Commercial awareness, able to connect infrastructure choices to business and trading outcomes
- Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
Ideally you'll come from a trading, HFT, market-making or similarly high-performance infrastructure background, though I'm open to speaking with strong candidates from adjacent industries.
