Job Title: Node.js Backend Developer

Location: Menlo Park, CA

Work Arrangement: Hybrid 3 days onsite in a week

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain highly scalable backend applications using Node.js.
• Build robust, secure, and high-performance RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Develop and maintain microservices using Node.js and modern backend frameworks.
• Design and implement scalable and reliable application architectures.
• Work with databases, including both relational and NoSQL technologies.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and resource utilization.
• Develop asynchronous and event-driven backend applications.
• Integrate third-party APIs, internal services, and external systems.
• Implement authentication, authorization, data validation, and other application security practices.
• Write clean, modular, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Develop unit, integration, and API tests to ensure application quality.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Monitor application performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other developers.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to define API contracts and integration requirements.
• Work closely with QA engineers to identify, reproduce, and resolve defects.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams on application deployment, CI/CD, and production support.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, stand-ups, and technical discussions.
• Create and maintain technical documentation related to APIs, architecture, and application functionality.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and recommend appropriate technologies and development practices.
• Ensure backend services meet requirements for scalability, availability, security, and maintainability.

Required Technical Skills

Node.js

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js backend development.
• Deep understanding of Node.js architecture and runtime behavior.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming and non-blocking I/O.
• Experience working with Promises, async/await, callbacks, and event-driven programming.
• Knowledge of Node.js streams, EventEmitter, and performance optimization.
• Experience troubleshooting memory, CPU, and performance issues in Node.js applications.

Backend Frameworks

Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:

• Express.js
• NestJS
• Fastify
• Koa.js
• Similar Node.js backend frameworks

API Development

• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with API authentication and authorization.
• Knowledge of HTTP methods, status codes, headers, and API security.
• Experience with JSON-based APIs.
• Understanding of API versioning, pagination, caching, rate limiting, and error handling.
• Experience integrating internal and third-party APIs.

Databases

Experience with one or more relational databases:

• PostgreSQL
• MySQL
• Oracle
• SQL Server

Experience with one or more NoSQL databases:

• MongoDB
• DynamoDB
• Redis
• Cassandra

Strong understanding of database design, indexing, query optimization, transactions, and data modeling.

Microservices & Distributed Systems

• Experience designing and developing microservices architectures.
• Understanding of service-to-service communication.
• Experience with asynchronous processing and event-driven systems.
• Knowledge of messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or AWS SQS/SNS is preferred.
• Understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, resiliency, and distributed systems.

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
