Requisition ID: 932 Location: Job Family Function: Engineering Department: Plant Systems Design Division: Corporate Engineering Center The Nuclear HVAC Design Engineer – SMR (or HVAC Design Engineer II) supports the design and development of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems for the SMR-300 Small Modular Reactor, an advanced nuclear power plant being developed to provide safe, reliable, and carbon-free energy. As a member of a multidisciplinary engineering team, this role will be responsible for designing and analyzing HVAC systems for nuclear power plant buildings, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, licensing requirements, and system performance objectives. The HVAC Design Engineer will collaborate closely with engineering, licensing, vendors, and contractors to develop practical, innovative solutions to complex technical challenges while supporting a U.S. Government cost-shared development program. The ideal candidate will bring strong HVAC design expertise, excellent analytical and communication skills, and a passion for contributing to the next generation of nuclear energy technology. Primary Responsibilities: Design HVAC systems for power plant buildings Assist contractors designing HVAC systems with recommendations Consult with vendors to develop new designs to meet unique challenges Review process flow diagrams, piping/ducting and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID/D&ID), system descriptions, specifications, thermal and pressure loss calculations, and control logic. Develop calculations for breathing air required for enclosed spaces, and air leakages from rooms/buildings. Develop equipment specifications and interact with vendors to obtain vendor input/design confirmation of various components. Review vendor/contractor designs to ensure compliance with the industry standards and system/component requirements. Applicants should be prepared to play an active role in a project-driven and highly integrated engineering team. Requirements: BS in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required. Strong academic background in HVAC. 4-6 years of experience in the design of HVAC systems for the energy industry. Effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, or closely related field Industry experience in designing HVAC systems for nuclear power plants Experience working with engineers and fabricators to develop designs and drawings.
