Ontology Engineer (Rolling Contract)

About the Role

We are helping to deliver a multi-year Data and AI Transformation programme for a leading Financial Services Organization. For this we are seeking an Ontology Engineer / Designer to join our team and initially you'll be on a 1-Year Contract (Extend/Perm).

You will ensure the ontology accurately reflects the organization’s regulatory obligations and underlying semantics.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the RIKB ontology in OWL, making sure it stays accurate and aligned with regulatory needs.
• Align the ontology with FIBO to ensure proper modelling for regulatory and compliance areas.
• Convert OWL/RDF models into the Neo4j LPG format and support mapping between the two.
• Work with the Chief Knowledge Architect and Regulatory Analysts to confirm the models correctly reflect regulatory obligations.
• Use reasoning tools like HermiT or Pellet to check and validate the ontology.
• Maintain and update the Cypher constraints to ensure data quality and integrity in the Neo4j environment.

Requirements

• Prior experience in financial services or regulated industries is highly preferred.
• Strong hands‑on experience with OWL 2 ontology design and ontology development best practices.
• Proficiency with Protégé, SKOS, FIBO, and semantic modelling frameworks.
• Experience mapping RDF/OWL models to LPG/Neo4j.
• Knowledge of HermiT / Pellet for OWL reasoning and validation.
• Strong understanding of regulatory semantics and data structures across regulated/compliance environments.
