Pediatric Cardiac ICU Registered Nurse (Pediatric CICU RN) – Houston, TX Employment Type: Full-Time Schedule: Nights | Rotating Weekends Shift Options: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM 11:00 PM – 11:00 AM Compensation: $42.03 – $65.10/hour Shift Differential: +$4/hour Nights | +$2/hour Weekends Sign-On Bonus: $30,000 Relocation Assistance: Available on a Case-by-Case Basis Overview A premier women's and children's hospital in Houston is launching a brand-new Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) program and is seeking experienced Pediatric ICU Registered Nurses to join its founding clinical team. This role focuses on the care of critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including congenital heart disease and post-operative cardiac surgery recovery. Nurses joining this program will participate in a comprehensive 18-week specialty orientation and training program designed to prepare staff for advanced pediatric cardiovascular critical care. This is a rare opportunity to help build a pediatric cardiac critical care program from the ground up while working alongside specialized pediatric cardiac teams within a high-acuity children's services environment. Program Highlights Brand-new Pediatric CICU program launch Specialized congenital heart disease and pediatric cardiac surgery focus 14-bed Pediatric CICU Pediatric patients age 1 year and older 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio Estimated 50–70 cardiac surgical cases during first operational year Comprehensive 18-week CICU training and onboarding program Paid travel, lodging, and training support during specialty orientation Responsibilities Deliver direct patient care to critically ill pediatric cardiac and post-operative cardiac surgery patients Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust individualized patient care plans Monitor and respond to rapidly changing patient conditions within a high-acuity CICU environment Collaborate with pediatric intensivists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary care teams Maintain accurate documentation and support evidence-based critical care practices Participate in quality improvement initiatives and pediatric cardiac care program development Provide family-centered education and emotional support throughout the patient care continuum Maintain a safe and therapeutic critical care environment Qualifications Required Active RN license Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric ICU RN experience in an acute care hospital Associate Degree in Nursing required BSN required within 24 months of hire (with enrollment within 6 months) BLS certification within 30 days of hire ACLS certification within 6 months of hire PALS certification within 6 months of hire Preferred Pediatric cardiac ICU or congenital heart experience Pediatric post-operative cardiac surgery experience Children's hospital experience CCRN certification Compensation & Benefits Competitive specialty critical care compensation Night and weekend shift differentials $30,000 sign-on bonus Relocation assistance available Paid specialty training, travel, lodging, and onboarding support Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage Paid Time Off (PTO) 401(k) with company match Tuition assistance and student loan support Paid family leave eligibility Career advancement and pediatric specialty development opportunities Employee wellness and mental health resources Ideal For This role is ideal for Pediatric ICU nurses seeking advanced pediatric cardiac critical care exposure, congenital heart disease experience, and the opportunity to help establish a new pediatric cardiovascular intensive care program within a high-acuity children's hospital environment.
