We are recruiting 4 Peer Support Co-Ordinators to provide borough-wide peer support leadership across our four London boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Redbridge and Waltham Forest, with a mix of full-time and part-time opportunities. Working predominantly within community and inpatient clinical teams, these roles will use lived experience and advanced peer support skills to support and mentor Peer Support Workers, strengthen integration within clinical services, contribute to training and workforce development, and provide peer-informed leadership, guidance and support across each borough.

These are four separate vacancies, and candidates should apply separately for each borough they wish to be considered for.

The Peer Support Co-Ordinator (Barking & Dagenham) provides Peer Support leadership, co-ordination and senior peer support within our Community Mental Health services. The role bridges frontline peer support delivery and peer workforce leadership, ensuring Peer Support Workers (PSWs) are well supported, safely practising, and effectively integrated into community services.

The post holder will use lived experience, advanced peer support skills and developing leadership capability to:

  • Support and mentor PSWs across the borough
  • Act as a key link between PSWs, clinical leads and the PSW leadership team
  • Support training delivery, Peer Support Worker forums and borough-wide events
  • Provide peer-informed input into complex situations where additional lived experience expertise is required

This role does not hold formal line management responsibility but provides day-to-day professional leadership, supervision, mentoring and support.

The post holder will use lived experience, advanced peer support skills and developing leadership capability to:

  • Support and mentor PSWs across the borough
  • Act as a key link between PSWs, clinical leads and the PSW leadership team
  • Support training delivery, Peer Support Worker forums and borough-wide PSW events
  • Provide peer-informed input into complex situations where additional lived experience expertise is required

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Deliver peer support across community mental health services.
  • Mentor, supervise and support Peer Support Workers.
  • Support PSW induction, development and reflective practice.
  • Provide peer-informed input into complex situations.
  • Facilitate borough-wide PSW forums and events.
  • Support peer training and workforce development.
  • Strengthen integration of peer support within MDTs.
  • Contribute to service improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Build partnerships with community and voluntary sector organisations.
  • Promote safe, ethical and recovery-focused peer support.

An awareness of the diverse communities we serve, alongside a willingness to continually learn and develop cultural competence, is a key element of this role.

You will need to demonstrate the ability to build trusting relationships with patients, carers and community partners from diverse backgrounds, working alongside communities to develop accessible, culturally relevant and meaningful peer support.

This includes an awareness of the impact of deprivation, stigma, language barriers and cultural expectations on access to mental health support.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being

properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters

will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will

undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which

will include mandatory training, systems training and the

allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will

have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior

managers, and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on

engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The

induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes Hospital.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of

15%of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,870 and a maximum payment of £6,1371 - per annum, pro rata for part time)

under the UKVI points-based system. When calculating the basic

salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High-Cost Area Supplement) is not

included to ensure fairness and consistency within our Trust.
