Every IV medication prepared in the sterile compounding environment plays a critical role in patient safety and clinical outcomes. As a Pharmacy Technician 2 in UVA Health's dedicated IV Room, you will be part of a highly specialized team responsible for preparing life-sustaining therapies that support patients across the hospital. This is an exceptional opportunity for a pharmacy technician who wants to expand their expertise beyond traditional pharmacy practice and develop advanced sterile compounding skills. Working alongside experienced pharmacists and technicians in a collaborative inpatient setting, you will contribute directly to high-quality patient care while building a specialized skill set that is highly valued throughout healthcare. The Role The IV Room is a dedicated specialty area within UVA Health's inpatient pharmacy where technicians focus exclusively on sterile compounding. Supported by a team of approximately 23 pharmacists and 23 pharmacy technicians, you will work within specialized hazardous and non-hazardous sterile environments connected by a central workroom. This role offers a unique opportunity to become immersed in advanced pharmacy operations while making a meaningful impact on patient care every day. In this role, you will: Compound sterile IV medications for hospitalized patients utilizing USP 797 standards and established sterile techniques. Prepare, label, and process patient-specific medications with exceptional attention to detail and quality. Collaborate closely with pharmacists who verify and oversee compounded medications. Work within dedicated hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounding areas. Prepare Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) formulations and other complex therapies. Participate in high-volume batching workflows for commonly used medications. Support both pediatric and adult inpatient medication preparation. Prioritize STAT, ASAP, and routine medication requests in a fast-paced hospital environment. Crosstrain across multiple sterile compounding functions to support operational needs and patient care demands. Complete comprehensive onboarding and specialty training before working independently. The anticipated schedule for this position is evenings, working 8 days on and 6 days off. Final schedule arrangements are made at the discretion of the hiring manager and may be subject to change. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School Graduate or equivalent required. Experience: 6 months minimum relevant experience required. Licensure: Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires sitting for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. The pay range for this role is $20.68 - $28.47 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
