Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient, 7 On/ 7 Off Nights

As a Pharmacy Technician, a caregiver in this role will support inpatient pharmacy operations at Indian River Hospital, providing medication preparation, distribution, delivery and restocking services across inpatient populations. The caregiver will operate pharmacy automation and carousel systems, manage inventory and maintain medication storage compliance while supporting sterile compounding and IV preparation as trained. Working collaboratively with the pharmacy and care teams, the caregiver will help ensure medications are accurately prepared and available when needed. This role also offers opportunities for additional training in oncology and other specialty areas.

A caregiver in this position will work seven consecutive days followed by seven days off. During the scheduled work week, caregivers will work five shifts from 11:30am to 10:00pm and two shifts from 10:30am to 10:00pm. The rotation includes every other weekend, with holiday coverage required only when a holiday falls within the caregiver’s scheduled work week. This position has no on-call requirement and is eligible for 8 hours of SP1.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Preparation – Accurate and timely preparation of medications which may include selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding, and sterile compounding.
• Assumes responsibility for the full range of pharmacy technician functions typically distributed across multiple technicians and specialized roles during daytime hours, ensuring continuous pharmacy operations and medication availability.
• Performs all distributive pharmacy technician duties with limited onsite support, including medication preparation and distribution, restocking and management of automated dispensing systems (e.g. carousel), inventory control, and sterile and non-sterile compounding.
• Provides immediate response and troubleshooting for automation failures, system downtime, and facilities disruptions impacting pharmacy operations, and communicated effectively with the on-site pharmacist and on-call pharmacy leadership, IT, facilities, and other support services to ensure resolution and continuity of care.
• Inventory – Maintains accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies. Accurately and timely completion of assigned inventory audits such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
• Regulatory compliance – Maintains a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Documents regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.
• Communication and teamwork – Communicates with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner. Demonstrates emotional control and intelligence in managing work relationships. Attends and actively participates in team huddles and meetings. Assist with pharmacy caregiver and student training. Shares responsibility for accomplishment of the team’s tasks and goals.
• Technology – Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to meet competencies to work in all workflows and areas throughout inpatient needs (oncology, cardio, med access).
  
  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is preferred at time of hire, CPhT through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required within 18 months
• Licensed in Florida as a registered pharmacy technician
  
  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
• Six months hospital experience
• Prior inpatient pharmacy experience
  
  

Physical Requirements:

• Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispending and compounding.
