Job Description - Planning Forester (01024984) Job Description Planning Forester - 01024984 Description Weyerhaeuser is seeking a Planning Forester to support the Southern Timberlands Coastal Piedmont Region in Brunswick, Georgia. This full-time, exempt role reports to the Region Planning Manager and is responsible for developing annual and three- to five-year fee harvest plans that align with regional silvicultural, harvest, safety, environmental, and business objectives. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain annual and three- to five-year harvest plans that support silvicultural strategies, harvest objectives, market needs, operability, and long-term planning priorities. Validate harvest candidates, prepare prescriptions, address environmental considerations, mark stream boundaries, conduct cruising activities, and support ready-to-log expectations. Spend meaningful time in the field completing tract and stand reconnaissance, layout, operability review, road assessment, and harvest-unit preparation. Coordinate with harvesting, marketing, silviculture, land use, inventory, contractors, and other regional partners to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations. Manage planning-related data, mapping, FMS/LIMS inputs, harvest-plan information, budgets, contractor activity, road and ditch maintenance priorities, and process improvements. What Success Looks Like In the first 12–24 months, a successful Planning Forester will build credibility across field and office settings; identify gaps in existing planning processes; correct data, layout, road, ditch, or handoff issues; and refine practices that improve safety, quality, cost, timing, and execution. Success also includes learning from peers inside and outside the region, applying longer-term thinking to harvest unit and management unit alignment, and prioritizing road and ditch maintenance work based on operational need, risk, timing, and return on investment. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in forestry or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Minimum of 2 years of relevant forestry, planning, harvesting, silviculture, roads, or related natural resources experience. Working knowledge of forestry Best Management Practices, safety expectations, environmental requirements, and field-based forest operations. Basic negotiating, contractor coordination, contract administration, prioritization, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and willingness to learn and use Weyerhaeuser inventory, GIS, mobile, mapping, and planning systems. Ability and willingness to spend significant time in the field while also managing office-based planning, data, coordination, and reporting responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications 5 or more years of relevant forestry, planning, harvesting, roads, silviculture, contractor management, or related operational experience. Demonstrated ability to perform with limited supervision, apply sound judgment, and manage planning activities across multiple units, functions, or priorities. Harvesting experience or strong exposure to harvesting operations, site operability, logging systems, soils, market needs, and handoff expectations. Experience moving effectively between field reconnaissance, unit layout, road assessment, GIS/data work, budget tracking, contractor coordination, and cross-functional communication. Experience identifying process gaps, improving planning practices, prioritizing road and ditch maintenance needs, and influencing changes that improve business outcomes. Compensation : This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $58,830 - $104,095 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
