Umbilical Search is proud to be partnering with a growing, technology-driven manufacturing organisation with an established operation in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. The business operates within a complex manufacturing environment, supplying technically sophisticated products to global customers across industrial and technology markets.


Following continued investment, growth and an ambitious transformation programme, the business is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the overall manufacturing operation, drive operational performance and develop a high-performing management team.


This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position with significant opportunity to influence culture, continuous improvement and the future direction of the site.


Key accountabilities:

  • Lead the overall manufacturing operation, with accountability for safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost
  • Lead, develop and mentor a team of managers
  • Be highly visible on the shop floor and drive performance through structured operational KPIs
  • Develop and execute the site's operational strategy in line with wider business objectives
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives across the facility
  • Lead cultural change, improving employee engagement, collaboration, accountability and ownership
  • Build a coaching-led management culture and develop high-potential talent within the organisation
  • Make clear and timely performance decisions while supporting and developing employees
  • Work closely with teams on product launches and the introduction of new products into production
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Finance and HR to improve operational performance
  • Own key operational costs, including labour, materials, scrap, maintenance and utilities
  • Lead structured problem solving, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Lead the Monthly Operations Review and wider operational meetings
  • Work closely with senior leadership on strategic operational priorities and future growth


Requirements:

  • Role: Plant Manager, Operations Director, Plant Director, Site Director, Site Manager, General Manager or equivalent
  • Experience: 5–10+ years' experience leading a complex manufacturing operation
  • Experience: Proven experience managing managers and leading multi-functional teams
  • Industry Background: Semiconductor, Electronics Manufacturing, Aerospace, Defence, Medical Devices, Automotive, RF Electronics or other advanced manufacturing environments
  • Continuous Improvement: Strong practical understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading organisational and cultural change and strong people leadership, coaching and development skills
  • Education: Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management or related qualification preferred
  • Languages: English required

The ideal candidate will be highly driven, ambitious and self-motivated, with strong emotional intelligence and people leadership skills, a hands-on and credible leadership style, the confidence to make difficult decisions and hold people accountable, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to coach teams and lead them effectively through change in a fast-paced environment.
