IÉSEG School of Management invites applications for an 18-month, fully funded postdoctoral position in Economics, with a focus on economic preferences, subjective beliefs, and decision-making under uncertainty. The appointment is conditionally renewable and is expected to begin in January 2027 . The selected candidate will be based on IÉSEG’s Lille campus and join the Department of Economics and Quantitative Methods. ABOUT THE POSITION The postdoctoral researcher will join iRisk, the IÉSEG Research Center on Risk and Uncertainty ( iRisk ), and work directly with Professors Loïc Berger and Thomas Epper. The successful candidate will take a leading role in transforming a rich and extensive body of data generated through a Horizon Europe project into high-quality academic publications. The position offers substantial scope for intellectual contribution: developing research questions, shaping analytical strategies, interpreting findings, and leading or co-authoring papers for international journals. It provides an excellent opportunity to build a strong publication pipeline, develop collaborations within an international research network, and establish a distinctive research profile using a unique and already well-developed empirical resource. The project examines economic preferences, subjective beliefs, and decision-making under uncertainty in the context of climate and environmental policy. The available data offer scope for several distinct but related papers, and the selected candidate will help define and implement the corresponding research agenda. The researcher will be expected to take substantial ownership of individual papers: identifying promising research questions, developing empirical strategies, carrying out the analyses, interpreting the results, and leading the writing. The position is therefore particularly suited to someone who can work independently, write clearly, and bring several projects from initial analysis to completed manuscripts. The candidate will work closely with Professors Berger and Epper and with other members of the iRisk team in Lille and Paris. They will receive regular feedback and have opportunities to present the research at conferences and interact with an international network of scholars working on risk and uncertainty, behavioral and experimental economics, decision theory, and applied Bayesian statistics. Candidates should hold a PhD in Economics or a closely related field or expect to complete it before taking up the position and should be fully fluent in English. Strong empirical skills and experience managing and analyzing complex datasets are essential. Evidence of independent research and academic writing will be an important selection criterion. Relevant expertise in at least one of the following areas is expected: Behavioral or experimental economics, preferably with a focus on decision-making under uncertainty, intertemporal choice, or social choice Decision-making under risk and uncertainty, particularly the empirical measurement and analysis of preferences and beliefs; Applied Bayesian statistics, preferably including experience with hierarchical modelling and simulation methods We are looking for candidates who embody our core values of A ccomplishment, R esponsibility, I ntegrity, S olidarity, and E ngagement and who will contribute to our diverse and international community, which includes people of 50 nationalities.
