Principal Consultant

Location: Houston, Texas (relocation from the UK fully supported)

Salary: flexible upon experience, $60,000-$100,000 considered

Contract: Full-time, permanent

About the opportunity

deverellsmith is a specialist property, construction and development recruitment consultancy with a strong reputation built over years in the UK market. This role sits within its US arm, Hintel — a newer part of the business, 18 months in and already establishing itself in Houston, led by people with more than 15 years' experience in the market. That pairing is rare: the pace and ownership of building something early, backed by the brand, systems and expertise of a business that has done this successfully for a long time. You would recruit permanent construction or development roles across a variety of US locations.

You will own your desk with real autonomy rather than inherit someone else's client list. The US construction and development market is buoyant and comparatively underserved, so there is warm ground for business development and room to build long-term relationships from the start. You will have the guidance of leaders who know the market deeply, the backing of an established consultancy, and huge earning potential.

Key responsibilities

• Win and develop new client relationships across construction or development
• Manage the full 360 recruitment process for permanent roles
• Build, grow and own a desk covering multiple US locations
• Source, screen and place candidates against live briefs
• Negotiate terms and fees with clients
• Maintain an active pipeline of candidates and business leads

Requirements

• Proven recruitment experience in recruiting within construction or development, in the US or UK market
• A strong business development track record and a genuine love of winning new relationships
• Confidence managing the full recruitment cycle
• Willingness to relocate to Houston (relocation fully supported)
• Ambition to build and lead a desk of your own
