Show job description

A warm, active family based in Houston, Texas is seeking an exceptional Private Educator to lead the full-time education of their two bright, curious, and energetic boys, ages 6 and 9.

The family is transitioning from a traditional private school environment to a highly individualized educational model that provides greater academic challenge, one-on-one attention, and the flexibility to travel extensively together.

This is a true career educator position, with the primary focus on academics and long-term educational outcomes. The family prefers a structured, classroom-style approach rather than a worldschooling model. Travel and experiential learning should enhance the boys' education without replacing a rigorous and consistent academic foundation.

The family's long-term goal is to prepare both boys to transition into a competitive private high school in Texas around ninth grade and ultimately position them for admission to highly selective colleges and universities.

The ideal candidate will combine strong academic credentials and teaching experience with warmth, patience, energy, flexibility, and an ability to genuinely connect with both children.

ABOUT THE CHILDREN
The boys currently attend a highly regarded private school in Houston. They are social, athletic, creative, and genuinely interested in learning, but both benefit significantly from individualized instruction.

They are particularly strong in mathematics and are currently performing around average in reading. Their educator should recognize their academic potential while adapting instruction to their individual learning styles, pace, and needs.

The older child is charismatic, outgoing, and eager to please. The younger is more strong-willed and may disengage when he does not find a subject or approach compelling. Both respond best to adults who are authentic, engaging, and able to build a genuine connection with them.

Protecting their confidence is especially important. The goal is to help each child develop the academic skills, independence, and self-assurance necessary to eventually enter a rigorous high school environment feeling prepared and ahead.

Outside of academics, the boys are involved in theater, choir, soccer, and lacrosse. The family plans to continue providing opportunities for extracurricular activities, socialization, athletics, music, and the arts alongside their private education.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS & PHILOSOPHY
The Private Educator will develop and deliver a comprehensive academic program aligned with the boys' individual needs, applicable Texas homeschool requirements, and the family's long-term educational goals.

The family prefers a structured, classroom-style approach rather than a fully experiential or worldschooling model. A strong foundational curriculum should remain consistent regardless of where the family is traveling, with opportunities to incorporate destinations, cultures, museums, history, geography, and other experiences when appropriate.

The educator should think beyond each individual school year and create an intentional academic trajectory focused on:

  • Building strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and history
  • Strengthening executive functioning, study habits, organization, and independent learning skills
  • Addressing individual learning differences without lowering academic expectations
  • Developing critical thinking, written communication, and reading comprehension
  • Preparing the boys for admission to competitive private high schools
  • Introducing age-appropriate standardized testing strategies and, eventually, SAT and college preparation
  • Incorporating Latin and Spanish language into learning

Music and certain arts instruction, including piano and choir, will be supported separately by specialized instructors.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implement an individualized academic program for both children
  • Provide direct instruction across core academic subjects while differentiating lessons for two distinct learners
  • Develop curriculum and select high-quality educational materials aligned with the boys' abilities and long-term goals
  • Maintain a structured learning environment with clear routines, expectations, assignments, and measurable progress
  • Adapt teaching methods to support ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, executive-functioning needs, and individual learning styles
  • Identify and address academic gaps while accelerating areas of strength
  • Track progress and maintain organized assessments, portfolios, records, and required homeschool documentation
  • Communicate regularly with the parents regarding progress, challenges, curriculum decisions, and educational strategy
  • Collaborate with tutors, educational specialists, and subject-specific instructors as needed
  • Maintain academic consistency while traveling domestically and internationally with the family
  • Thoughtfully incorporate travel and experiential learning into the established curriculum
  • Prepare the boys for a successful transition into a rigorous private high school environment

IDEAL CANDIDATE & QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is a seasoned educator who combines strong academic expertise with meaningful, hands-on teaching experience.

The family is seeking someone who can recognize how each child learns, build genuine trust, and provide structure and high expectations while adapting to two different learning profiles and personalities.

This individual should be warm, patient, confident, and emotionally intelligent, with the ability to independently lead the boys' education. Given the family's lifestyle, the educator must also be adventurous, flexible, and genuinely comfortable with extensive travel and changing environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field required
  • Master's degree or relevant advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Significant professional teaching or private education experience
  • Experience with elementary and middle-school students
  • Experience with ADHD, dyslexia and dysgraphia
  • Strong curriculum development and lesson-planning skills
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for multiple learners
  • Strong literacy and mathematics knowledge
  • Private school, admissions, or high school prep experience highly valued
  • Excellent communication, judgment, and emotional intelligence
  • Willing and able to travel extensively domestically and internationally
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Minimum one-year commitment

SCHEDULE & TRAVEL
This is a full-time position based primarily in Houston, Texas, with extensive domestic and international travel.

The family's business and personal travel schedule can be significant, and they would like the boys to have the flexibility to accompany them. The educator will be responsible for maintaining continuity in their education regardless of location.

This position will not follow a traditional school-year or summer calendar. Time off will be coordinated around the academic program, family travel, and the educator's schedule.

A local Houston candidate is preferred; however, the family is open to relocation for an exceptional educator.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $150,000+ annually DOE
  • Medical
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Bonus Opportunities
  • Retirement Benefits
  • Relocation Assistance

START DATE & SELECTION PROCESS
The anticipated start date is Labor Day 2027.

The family is open to either a one-year or multi-year agreement, with a minimum commitment of one full academic year and the potential to develop into a long-term educational partnership.

Candidates will be asked to develop and deliver a sample lesson for both boys, allowing the family to evaluate teaching style, communication, personality fit, and the candidate's ability to engage and differentiate instruction for both children simultaneously.

The selected candidate will undergo comprehensive pre-employment screening, including professional reference checks, education verification, criminal background screening, driving record review, drug screening, and social media screening.

THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a unique opportunity for an accomplished educator who wants to move beyond the limitations of a traditional classroom while continuing to provide serious, academically rigorous instruction.

The right educator will have the opportunity to create a truly personalized education for two capable young learners, travel extensively with the family, and play a meaningful role in shaping their academic confidence and future.

The family is looking for someone who can challenge without overwhelming, provide structure without rigidity, and ensure academic achievement and confidence grow together.
