Product Engineer

About the Role

This is a full-stack product engineering role at a well-known early-stage venture organization, sitting at the intersection of engineering, product, and operations. You will own the entire product experience end-to-end, from problem definition and UI design to deployment, building software that powers admissions pipelines, events platforms, and internal tooling. There are no dedicated PMs or designers, so your decisions shape the product directly.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and ship full-stack applications supporting admissions workflows, events platforms, and internal tools.

• Develop and extend an events platform covering registrations, coordination, and media handling across a variety of event types.

• Integrate with external systems and APIs such as Google Calendar, Slack, email, and data pipelines to coordinate internal teams and external users.

• Build AI and semantic search systems using embeddings and natural language queries across large datasets.

• Automate admissions workflows including scheduling, notifications, status tracking, email triage, and deadline management.

• Develop internal copilots and tools using LLMs for email classification, workflow automation, and natural language interfaces.

• Create dashboards and analytics to track pipeline health and operational metrics.

• Work directly with operations teams to understand workflows and translate complexity into clean, usable software.

What We're Looking For

• Proven track record shipping full-stack products end-to-end, owning problem definition, UI, and deployment without PM direction.

• Hands-on experience building with AI and LLMs, including production features or strong side projects.

• Proficiency across the stack: Rails, React, PostgreSQL, and Python (or closely equivalent technologies).

• Experience designing and shipping AI or semantic search features (embeddings, NLP) across large datasets.

• Background in a startup or founding engineer context, comfortable working without roadmaps or close management.

• Strong CS fundamentals from a rigorous academic background or demonstrated through exceptional projects.

• Experience integrating third-party APIs and external systems.

• Familiarity with internal tooling, workflow automation, or CRM-style software is a plus.

• Former founder or early-stage CTO experience is a plus.

• Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate for full-time in-office work.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $185,000 to $485,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is available.

This role is on-site five days a week in San Francisco, CA, United States. Candidates must be based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate.
