Product Engineer

TypeSafe is a frontier model lab. We build reliable and general AI systems to power economically valuable automation. While others chase benchmarks and academic puzzles, we’ve been quietly rethinking the LLM stack from first principles — building a new kind of general frontier model designed for real-world reliability, decision-making, and autonomy in production. We’re a small, fast-moving team from OpenAI, Google Brain, and Meta/FAIR, backed by top-tier investors. Since mid-2024, we’ve been engineering the foundation for what comes after the current “state-of-the-art” — a model that actually gets things done. About the Role As a product engineer, you will function as a hacker-in-residence, creating working prototypes with TypeSafe’s API to explore the frontiers of what structured LLMs can do, and eventually taking the best ideas to production. This role requires a mix of exceptional product thinking and rapid code-protyping skills. Our tech stack is primarily Python. We also use TypeScript, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS for frontend, with Kubernetes for orchestration. We empower developers to use any tooling they find helpful for getting their job done, including Claude Code and Cursor. On a day to day level, you might Brainstorm — in writers-room style — innovative product applications for TypeSafe models Create multiple unpolished working prototypes in a single day Refine prototypes into reliable, dependable products for end users Provide actionable, qualitative feedback about model performance to research teams Collaborate with product, marketing, platform, and solutions engineering teams to ensure the performance of your applications and launch them to customers We are looking for people who Are familiar with popular frameworks and tools that can accelerate work (incl coding agents), and stay current on SOTA best practices Can precisely identify the critical from the superfluous, and ruthlessly downscope Show complete ownership – can think about goals on a strategic level and define what needs to happen toward that goal, rather than at the level of tasks or tickets Have shipped software apps end-to-end, including integration with AI/LLMs, and understand their capabilities and limitations Think from first principles and deeply understand product and how to solve user problems in some domain Care deeply about our mission and are driven to translate it into real-world impact Have 5+ years of professional software engineering, or equivalent professional expertise Life at TypeSafe We’re a small, flat, close-knit team dedicated to real-world impact preparing the world for Transformative AI.
