Production Supervisor

Job Title: Production Supervisor – 2nd Shift (Injection Molding)

Job Description

This working Production Supervisor role leads a 2nd shift injection molding operation with a strong, hands-on presence on the production floor. You guide and support a team of approximately 10–20 production employees, ensuring that production runs safely, efficiently, and according to schedule. You spend most of your time on the floor troubleshooting injection molding issues, supporting quality, maintaining production flow, and helping employees develop and succeed.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of approximately 10–20 production employees throughout the 2nd shift.
• Review production schedules at the start and during the shift, and prioritize work to meet customer and internal deadlines.
• Monitor production output, scrap levels, and efficiency, and take corrective action to keep performance on target.
• Troubleshoot injection molding and related production issues in real time to minimize downtime and maintain product quality.
• Work alongside operators on the floor and assist with machine setups, material handling, and other production needs as required.
• Perform frequent in-process quality checks and address any issues immediately before they escalate.
• Assign employees to machines and workstations, and adjust staffing as needed to meet production requirements.
• Train, coach, and develop production employees in proper procedures, safety, quality standards, and efficient work practices.
• Address employee concerns and performance issues in a timely, fair, and constructive manner.
• Identify opportunities to improve production methods, efficiency, equipment performance, and overall product quality.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Production, and other departments to resolve equipment, process, and quality problems.
• Ensure the production area remains organized, clean, and safe by reinforcing 5S and housekeeping expectations.
• Support preventive maintenance efforts by communicating equipment issues and working with maintenance to schedule and plan repairs.
• Use production and maintenance systems, including IQMS, to monitor performance, document issues, and support continuous improvement.
• Interpret hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical prints to assist in diagnosing equipment issues and collaborating with maintenance personnel.

Essential Skills

• Previous plastic injection molding and processing experience, including hands-on troubleshooting of molding issues.
• Previous manufacturing supervisory or leadership experience overseeing production employees in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong understanding of production processes, workflows, and troubleshooting techniques in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to read and understand production schedules, work orders, and product specifications.
• Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to react quickly to production and quality issues.
• Strong communication skills to lead, coach, and provide clear direction to production employees and collaborate with other departments.
• Ability and willingness to be hands-on and actively involved on the production floor, spending approximately 75% of time on the floor and 25% in the office.
• Working knowledge of injection molding machines and CNC machines within a plastics manufacturing environment.
• Maintenance within plastics manufacturing, including familiarity with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to interpret hydraulic prints, pneumatic prints, and electrical prints to support troubleshooting and maintenance planning.
• Comfort using manufacturing and production systems such as IQMS for planning, tracking, and reporting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with electrical maintenance, including troubleshooting and supporting repairs on production equipment.
• Experience with mechanical maintenance, including diagnosing and assisting with mechanical issues on machinery.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics as they relate to injection molding and industrial equipment.
• Experience with CNC repair and CNC troubleshooting in a production environment.
• in machinery installation and installing new equipment on the production floor.
• Experience with industrial maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
• Exposure to maintenance management and maintenance supervision practices.
• Familiarity with PLC-based equipment and controls in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience with maintenance planning, including coordinating downtime and repair activities.
• Basic fabrication skills to support minor repairs and improvements to equipment and fixtures.
• Comfort working in both production and quality lab/office environments and collaborating across functions.

Work Environment

The work environment is a clean, well-lit, temperature-controlled plastics manufacturing facility that does not carry the typical strong plastic odor often associated with molding operations. You spend the majority of your time on the production floor, working directly with operators and equipment, while also performing some duties in a quality lab and office setting. The operation utilizes injection molding machines, CNC equipment, and related industrial machinery supported by hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, as well as production and maintenance software such as IQMS. The culture emphasizes safety, organization, and a tidy production area, with a strong focus on teamwork and cross-department collaboration between Production, Maintenance, Quality, and other functions. Dress is typical for a manufacturing environment, with appropriate work attire and any required personal protective equipment provided or specified by the facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elyria, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70720.00 - $83200.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
