Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. As an Early Years Primary Teacher at Lihir International School, you will inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning in students from Kindergarten through to the early primary years. Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes student wellbeing, development, and success. Assess, monitor, and report on student progress while collaborating with students, parents, and school leadership. Work closely with fellow teachers, teacher assistants, and school leaders in a highly collaborative team environment. Prerequisites for your success A Bachelor of Education, Primary Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related qualification. Current teacher registration or eligibility to obtain registration. A minimum of five years' teaching experience, ideally within Early Years or Primary education settings. Strong knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, with an understanding of the PNG Curriculum highly regarded. Experience teaching across Kindergarten to lower Primary year levels. Excellent communication, planning, organisational, and relationship-building skills. The ability to adapt and thrive in a remote island community while contributing positively to a close-knit and supportive team culture. Additional strengths or interests in areas such as music, arts, sport, or other enrichment activities will be highly valued. Working Conditions This role is offered on a residential 5:2 roster, based in Newmont’s Lihir townsite community, a gated precinct based on the coastline cliff with magnificent ocean views. The townsite has Company provided housing (inc. utilities), international school (up to and including Year 10) and a range of recreational facilities including gym, sports club with restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and playground areas for the kids. There is also a 9-hole golf course on the island! Healthcare services are provided at the Lihir Medical Clinic. An onsite deli and café provide access to fresh local and imported produce including grocery items, as well as barista-made coffees and freshly baked cakes. The company offers regular shipment of groceries and care packages for townsite residents to access goods not available on the island. The Lihir fishing and boating clubs offer the opportunity to get out and enjoy the pristine waters and beaches around the island on the weekends.
