PURCHASING ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT -BROOKS, AB

With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,500 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primal, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more. JBS Ontario in Belleville produces fresh meat and seafood products for leading retailers in Canada.

At JBS Canada, our people are our greatest asset. We are very proud to have a team of high achieving, engaged employees. We are currently seeking the Administrative Assistant Purchasing to join our team at our main processing facility in Brooks, AB.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Source and purchase food-grade packaging (vacuum bags, boxes, film), processing chemicals, sanitizers, and plant safety gear (PPE).
  • Monitor stock levels and set strict reorder points to manage high-volume turnover while balancing warehouse space constraints.
  • Create, review, communicate, and monitor purchase orders with suppliers. Determine current efficiency of scheduling process and POs sent to vendors;
  • Contact vendors, determine prices, and review industry publications to purchase materials and supplies.
  • Evaluate, select, and establish relationships with vendors based on terms of conditions, and prices negotiated.
  • Contact suppliers regarding adjustments, incorrect materials, deliveries, etc.
  • Follow, track, and report key performance indicators.
  • Work with internal departments and stakeholders to clarify specifications, establish source alternatives, increase standardization, and otherwise increase value for our customers.
  • Coordinate Accounts Payable Team invoice payments based on suppliers’ performance and orders fulfilment.
  • Assess Inventory Management System and investigation to be in compliance with SOX law.
  • Work with internal departments to forecast needs and align purchasing plans.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Agribusiness, Business Administration, or a related technical field.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management abilities
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures;
  • Computer proficiency, including effective working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • High level of critical thinking, logical thinking and analysis and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts;
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently or as part of a team;
  • Perform well under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills;
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work;
  • Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity; Confident, consistent, decisive and strong personality;
  • Strong management of sensitive, private and classified information.
  • Excellent language and communication skills.
