JOTA Advanced Engineering are looking for a full-time QHSE Manager with strong, practical AS9100 experience and a proven ability to build and implement a Quality Management System within a precision engineering and manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of implementing AS9100 across the business while maintaining our existing ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 accreditations and supporting continual improvement. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can translate AS9100 requirements into effective processes, controlled documentation and working practices across all departments. Clear communication, good attention to detail, practical leadership and the ability to work closely with people throughout the business are essential.

About The Role
Leadership and Management
- Provide clear leadership for quality, health, safety and environmental standards across the business.
- Manage and support the Quality Control Inspectors, ensuring inspection activities are planned, prioritised and completed effectively.
- Work closely with senior management, department leads and employees to ensure QHSE requirements are understood and followed.
- Lead by example and promote a practical, positive approach to quality, safety and environmental responsibility.
- Support managers and team leaders with QHSE-related decisions, investigations and improvement actions.
- Chair quarterly management review meetings and ensure actions, risks and improvement items are recorded and followed through.
- Encourage accountability across all departments and ensure actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Communicate QHSE expectations clearly and support a culture of continual improvement.
- Maintain and develop the company Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 requirements.
- Lead the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of AS9100 within the business.
- Manage controlled documents, procedures, records and quality-related processes.
- Build, maintain and control PPAP documentation where required by customers or project requirements.
- Support contract review activities by identifying quality, inspection, documentation and customer-specific requirements and ensuring suitable inspection plans are in place.
- Act as the main point of contact for customer quality issues, ensuring concerns are managed professionally and followed through.
- Plan, carry out and manage internal audits, including follow-up actions and verification of effectiveness.
- Coordinate external audits and ensure actions are completed in a timely and effective manner.
- Report QMS performance, risks, non-conformances and improvement opportunities to senior management.
- Promote customer, regulatory and industry quality requirements across the business.
- Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, 8D reports and continual improvement activities.
- Help develop a strong quality mindset across all departments, including production, inspection, engineering and administration.
- Maintain and develop the company Environmental Management System in line with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Maintain and improve health and safety processes, procedures and records across the business.
- Manage HSE objectives, targets, aspects, risks and improvement actions.
- Ensure legal, regulatory and customer HSE requirements are understood and followed.
- Maintain QHSE documentation, registers, risk assessments and supporting records.
- Plan and manage HSE audits, inspections and action plans.
- Monitor and report key HSE performance indicators.
- Review incidents, near misses and hazards, ensuring suitable investigations and follow-up actions are completed.
- Identify PPE requirements and support safe working practices across all business areas.
- Provide QHSE inductions, toolbox talks and training where required.
- Communicate QHSE expectations, updates and requirements clearly across the business.
- Work closely with production, inspection, engineering, purchasing and administration teams to support effective QHSE control.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, certification bodies and external auditors where required.
- Act as a customer-facing representative for quality matters, providing clear updates and supporting the resolution of quality concerns.
- Support managers and team leaders by providing practical QHSE guidance and advice.
- Ensure actions, risks, non-conformances and improvement opportunities are communicated clearly and followed through.
- Encourage open communication so issues, concerns and improvement ideas are raised early.
- Help build a collaborative culture where quality, safety and environmental responsibilities are understood and owned by everyone.
- Review and maintain competency records for employees carrying out quality, inspection, production, HSE and other controlled activities.
- Identify the training and competency requirements needed to implement and maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AS9100 effectively across the business.
- Work with managers and team leaders to close competency gaps and ensure employees are suitably trained and competent for the tasks they carry out.
- Develop and maintain skills matrices, training plans and objective evidence of competence across the business.
- Ensure competency and training records remain current, controlled and ready for internal, customer and certification audits.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a Quality Management or QHSE role within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Previous quality management experience within aerospace manufacturing.
- AS9100 Lead Auditor qualified, with strong practical knowledge of the standard.
- Proven experience of leading the implementation of an AS9100-compliant Quality Management System and successfully achieving certification.
- Good working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- ISO 14001 Internal Auditor qualified.
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Strong experience in auditing, corrective action, root cause analysis and non-conformance management.
- A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to lead, communicate clearly and work effectively across the business.
