The Peds Specialties/Hemonc/Neuro Unit 4B is a 20-bed pediatric intermediate care unit at Duke University Hospital. Our team works together to deliver outstanding care for each patient through modeling of Duke’s core values. This unit serves the hematology/oncology and general pediatric populations and medical subspecialties, with an emphasis on neurology.

Relocation to a new bed tower, which boasts spacious rooms that feature a caregiver space.
Opportunity to become certified in administering chemotherapy.
Interdisciplinary unit-based shared governance council.
Expertise in caring for pediatric subspecialties such as neurology, oncology, and endocrinology.
Paid training, including eight weeks of paid orientation, monthly nurse residency classes, and completion of a unit-focused project.

Schedule:

Full Time: Three 12-hour shifts, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., day/night rotating, 36 hours per week.

How you will make an impact

Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with medical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the team leader or charge nurse.
Document assessments, plans of care, interventions, evaluations, and reevaluations of patient status. Assess the nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients, independently seek resources, and work collaboratively.
Educate patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care and manage relationships with patients, families, visitors, the healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Assist other healthcare personnel in the delivery of patient care.
Participate in maintaining the environment of care, including equipment and material resources. Prioritize work organization and identify available resources to complete components of care in a timely manner.
Participate in professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings, and supporting the development of other staff and formal learners.
Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities, assist in performance improvement activities, and perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

What you will need

Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or higher, Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years of their start date.
Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
BLS certification required.
