NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility, which supports the safe and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical research across sites including QEUH/RHC, GRI, the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital and the Dental Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated registered nurse to support the delivery of clinical research involving patients and healthy volunteers. You will coordinate participant recruitment, treatment, education, monitoring and follow-up, while ensuring accurate study documentation and high standards of care throughout the research journey.

Working closely with Principal and Chief Investigators and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will manage your own caseload and contribute to the successful delivery of a varied research portfolio.

Applicants must be a first level registered nurse with relevant clinical experience and be educated to degree level, or working towards this. Knowledge of research governance, informed consent, confidentiality, randomisation and Good Clinical Practice would be advantageous. Strong organisational, communication and IT skills are essential, along with a methodical approach and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

This post requires PVG Scheme membership/record for the relevant regulatory group. If you are not already a member, a satisfactory Disclosure Scotland check will be required before appointment.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Secondment or Job-share opportunity
  • Fixed-term Contract for 24 months
  • Full-time position (36 hours per week) and Part-time position (21.6 hours per week) available
  • The post is based on a Monday to Friday service, usually 08:30-16:30, with flexibility required to meet study needs, including occasional unsocial hours and weekend working. The ability to travel across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde sites is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice within the Legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation to ensure patient interests and wellbeing are met.
  • At all times maintain a professional manner with patients, colleagues and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develop in the role by using evidence based practice and continuously improve own knowledge following.
  • Conduct clinical research in accordance with current research regulatory and governance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding and knowledge of the legal, ethical and professional issues surrounding consenting patients or volunteers to clinical trials.
  • Provide a high standard of care to patients and volunteers participating in research projects and clinical trials.
  • Assess, plan and deliver research interventions as per protocol.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the research protocols, clinical interventions and procedures involved ensuring all work undertaken follows the research protocol and trial design.
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills and competencies to meet research project requirements e.g. Venepuncture, cannulation.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered nurse preferably educated to degree level.
  • Post registration experience in acute clinical setting required.
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Proficient in MS office and electronic patient management systems.
