The laboratory focuses on the development of markers for age-related hearing loss to treat deafness and hearing loss. The Researcher/ Scientist IV will lead and develop projects in an ongoing research program that focuses on the identification and development of targeted proteomic therapies for hearing loss, including the pre-clinical evaluation of proteomic agents and a specific focus on the development of synthetic proteins and peptides. In addition,the laboratory uses conventional and pursues novel peptide-targeted approaches for the research including cellular therapies, nanotechnology, and small molecule and gene transfers. The incumbent will also be tasked with lab managerial duties and will function as lab supervisor. The ideal applicant will be a highly motivated, independent yet team-orientated individual with excellent communication skills and willingness to excel in a fast-paced research environment. Duties & Responsibilities Design, formulate research methods, and conduct pre-clinical, translational research studies in the field of auditory, neurosensory and cardiac proteomic analyses of bulk and single cell analyses, using f tissues and cells from mouse models. Participate in projects on novel therapeutic strategies combining targeted a proteome and genes, with additional studies devised to develop animal models appropriate to evaluate new targeted approaches for auditory, sensory and cardiac dysfunction. Serve as senior collaborator on highly complex research initiatives, leading substantive aspects of the project. Collaborate with other researchers, departments, or institutions, leading to interdisciplinary work and are also involved in mentoring and teaching activities. Perform scientific data collections, reductions, and analyses involving routine procedures characterized by use of independent judgement. Conduct experiments using various tests, routines, and analyses, where procedures are new and results need to be synthesized. Author articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, or chapter publications. Co-author or author publications and co-present results with principal investigators at meetings and conferences. Participate in acquiring research funding including initiating and writing grant proposals. Ensure regulatory compliance of the research program by coordinating with granting agencies and regulators as required by research program. Oversee day-to-day operation of study and may supervise other research and support personnel. Provide guidance and oversight to Postdoctoral Associates, Graduate Assistants, and Designated Campus Colleagues. Oversee inventory and requisition supplies. Additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation. Skilled in grant writing and manuscript preparation. Ability to design and conduct animal/rodent experiments and translational science. Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings. Knowledge in gene expression analyses. Preferred Qualifications Research expertise in biochemistry and physiology and medicine, particularly mass spectrometry, and drug development preferred. Expertise in standard and advanced techniques utilized in cell and molecular biology. Experience in rodent work, such as handling, maintenance, and minor rodent procedures (cell isolation and proteomic chip development, and dissections).
