The Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute at Weston Hospital offers comprehensive hematology and oncology services, including specialized care for blood disorders and cancers, with a focus on patient-centered, collaborative care and innovation. The clinic provides a range of services, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of blood cancers and related disorders. As an RN on this team, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey as an integral member of the infusion therapy team, working closely with key members of the department, including the Nurse Manager, Cancer Center, infusion nurses, chemotherapy infusion schedulers and oncology and hematology physicians and APPs. You will support weekend infusion services while interacting directly with patients and their families, providing opportunities to enhance their experience and offer healthcare education as needed.

A caregiver in this role works weekends and one weekday shift, which includes alternating Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., every Sunday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and one weekday from 9:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and their families.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • (ONS) Chemo/Bio course complete within two years of employment if employed on units inpatient and/or outpatient where chemo is administered
  • One year of current acute care RN experience OR licensed military RN experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Advanced knowledge of chemotherapy medications and protocols
  • Prior infusion therapy experience
  • Acute care experience preferred
  • Emergency Department experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires frequent walking from department to department; requires sitting at a workstation or desk; requires standing; work may include occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs., such as files, documents and computer printouts.
  • Work requires finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
  • Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department directors, physicians and other members of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem-solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
