The opportunity
We are looking for a General Practitioner to provide General Practitioner services to the rural communities of Rosebery & Zeehan on Tasmania’s stunning West Coast.
The Rosebery Community Healthcare Centre coordinates the delivery of services such as Community Nursing, visiting allied health, and other support programs. You will be working in the general practice, as the be sole practitioner for the communities of Rosebery & Zeehan supported by an experienced and local nursing and administrative team.
Ochre Health is one of Australia’s leading General Practice organisations. Founded in 2002 by Dr Hamish Meldrum and Dr Ross Lamplugh in the NSW outback town of Bourke, Ochre is the only General Practice organisation in all MMM areas, from metro to remote Australia. Ochre now supports over 450 doctors, including 90 registrars.

Rosebery is an active mining town nestled deep within the stunning West Coast Range, on the slopes of Mount Black. The town was founded in 1893 when prospector Tom McDonald discovered gold in the area, and the main mine has been in operation since the 1930s, producing zinc, lead, copper, silver, and gold, and continuously supporting the town’s economy. Well known for its beautiful and secluded atmosphere, Rosebery boasts a number of attractions, including Australia’s steepest golf course and Tasmania’s tallest waterfall (Montezuma Falls, 113m high).
There are several more challenging walking tracks throughout the rugged peaks of Mount Black, Mount Read, Mount Farrell and Mount Murchison; these volcanic mountains surrounding Rosebery are covered in lush green rainforest, and offer spectacular views of the entire area. Lake Pieman and Lake Rosebery are popular local haunts with locals and travellers alike, providing a great spot to go camping, picnicking, or trout fishing.
Zeehan, also an historic mining town, a short 20min drive from Rosebery, with many spectacular pre-federation building, The Gaiety Theatre & The West Coast Heritage Centre which displays examples of Tasmania’s mineral emblem, the valuable crystal crocoite, as well as other geological specimens and historic mining artefacts. Zeehan boasts a newly renovated Park, Gym & Swimming pool (open Nov-March) and is popular for its Park Run, being only 1 or 2 places in Australia you can complete Z – Zeehan Golf Club Park Run.

- Rural General Practice Settlement Incentive (RGPSI) Grant – Up to $100,000 for VR GPs committing to a five-year placement in prioritised rural Tasmania (MMM3-7), with staged payments over four years (eligibility applies)
- Excellent supervision or mentoring (if required)
- Relocation, procedural, CPD, and retention grants
- A location eligible for RVTS, AGPT, RACGP and ACRRM independent pathway, remotely supervised
- Significant reduction in moratorium
- 1.5 hour drive to Wynyard Airport
