Rural Generalist & GP – Emergency Medicine Focus

Inverell is at a pivotal moment.

With a busy Emergency Department, strong demand across General Practice, and a community that genuinely values continuity of care, Inverell is ready to welcome clinicians seeking meaningful work, real collegiality, and a lifestyle that gives back more than it takes.

  • Inverell District Hospital** is seeking **Rural Generalists with advanced skills in Emergency Medicine** and **General Practitioners with a strong interest in Emergency Care** to deliver comprehensive **primary care, inpatient services, and emergency medicine** to the local community.

A Variety Of Appointment Options Are Available, Including

  • **Staff Specialist**
  • **Fee-for-Service**
  • **Sessional Visiting Medical Officer (VMO)**

The Role – Build the Career You Want

If you’re a Rural Generalist or Specialist GP who thrives on **challenge, variety, and broad clinical scope**, Inverell offers the opportunity to deepen your practice in all the right ways.

You’ll Have The Flexibility To

  • Combine **General Practice with Emergency Medicine**
  • Provide inpatient and emergency care
  • Supervise and mentor trainees
  • Influence models of care and service development
  • Participate in teaching through the **University of New England (UNE)**

With flexible work arrangements, hybrid practice models, and a region actively investing in **training, innovation, and workforce sustainability**, this is a role you can **build a long-term, fulfilling career around**—not just fill a roster.

The staff are friendly, supportive, and collaborative. Hospital management has cultivated a solution-focused culture and is genuinely invested in improving the department and patient care. I feel appreciated by patients and truly believe my presence makes a difference in their lives. Coordinating care locally avoids unnecessary transfers and allows patients to receive gold-standard care close to home. Starting critical care early and giving patients the same chance of recovery as in a tertiary ED is incredibly fulfilling.
