The Opportunity The CVRM (Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolism) Translational Biology group within Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) is seeking a highly motivated and well-trained individual to lead the pharmacology efforts to drive drug discovery and therapeutic development, and design and execute mechanistic studies to characterize these compounds and their impact on physiology and pathophysiology. In addition, you will help evaluate literature information and novel assay formats to ensure rapid progress and overall project success. This position requires working closely with scientists in a multidisciplinary team. Primary Responsibilities Provide scientific and technical hands-on support for research involving but not limited to in vivo and ex vivo studies in animal models of cardiovascular, renal, obesity, and metabolic conditions with the goal of progressing novel drug candidates into clinical development and beyond. Plan and execute experiments, develop and follow protocols, document data, troubleshoot problems, interpret data and communicate results, and maintain up-to-date knowledge in the fields. Advise on technical or project strategy as appropriate Mentor and train junior members to be scientifically and technically proficient. Manage studies performed at CROs, evaluate the resulting data, develop technical documents and assist with the preparation and/or review of information supporting regulatory submissions. Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams. Effectively communicate lab activities, timelines and results to team members and collaborators. Who You Are PhD in Pharmacology, Biology or other related field with 3 + years relevant post-graduate experience. Knowledge in the cardio-metabolic disease field with a strong in vivo background is essential. Hands-on experience with cardiovascular models (heart and kidney ischemia reperfusion injury, transverse aortic constriction) and phenotyping (echocardiography, heart catheterization) to answer questions about CVRM biology and drug discovery. A scientist with passion for hands-on research and desire to lead from the bench. Ability to multitask and contribute to several projects while remaining well organized. Ability to take unique and creative approaches to solve challenging problems. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team and effectively communicate in cross-functional forums. Preferred Experience in rodent surgeries (in addition to cardiovascular), ex vivo experiments, and isolation of primary cells is a plus. Prior experience working in a biotech or pharmaceutical industry setting, understanding the demands and timelines of a drug discovery and development environment. Relocation benefits are available for this job posting. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $115,900 to $215,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
