Security Lead

About the Role

A VC-backed data infrastructure startup is seeking its first dedicated security hire to build and own the security program. This hands-on individual contributor role works closely with engineering and leadership to protect sensitive enterprise data while helping teams develop and ship products securely.

What You'll Do

• Build and manage the security program across cloud infrastructure, applications, data governance, and employee security.

• Design access controls, just-in-time permissions, and data governance policies for sensitive customer data.

• Lead the SOC 2 certification process and work with an established vendor to maintain compliance.

• Threat-model products, data pipelines, and AI workflows, then implement technical controls to address high-impact risks.

• Create secure defaults and tools that help engineering teams move quickly while reducing security risks.

• Review architecture, write code, and make practical security decisions in collaboration with engineering and leadership.

What We're Looking For

• At least 5 years of experience as a security engineer or software engineer, with strong engineering skills.

• Experience with cloud security, application security, identity and authorization, multi-tenant systems, secrets management, and data governance.

• Hands-on experience with AWS, SOC 2, AI/ML security, data pipelines, SIEM, and infrastructure as code.

• Experience building security at a startup or leading security in a technically rigorous environment, including work with sensitive customer data.

• A STEM degree from a highly regarded program and a consistent work history.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual salary range: $210,000 to $300,000. Visa sponsorship is available.
