Senior Data Scientist

Program Summary: The objective of this program is to perform full lifecycle engineering processes including research, analysis, design, development, unit testing, Verification and Validation (V&V) integration testing, training, deployment, and development of documentation and recommendations to the Government for HawkeyeFlight software.

Job Summary: KBR is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support the modernization and advancement of data analytics capabilities for a U.S. Navy aviation sustainment program. This role will develop and deploy machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), predictive analytics, and statistical learning model (SLM) solutions that transform structured and unstructured data into actionable operational insights. The position will support data modernization efforts across cloud-based environments while developing algorithms that improve predictive maintenance, technical publication usability, readiness reporting, anomaly detection, and mission effectiveness. The successful candidate will work closely with software engineers, data architects, product owners, and government stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and mission-focused analytics capabilities.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, train, validate, and deploy machine learning and statistical learning models.
  • Develop NLP solutions to analyze maintenance documentation, technical publications, operational reports, and other unstructured data sources.
  • Create predictive and prescriptive analytics algorithms supporting maintenance forecasting, reliability analysis, readiness reporting, and anomaly detection.
  • Perform data cleansing, normalization, enrichment, quality assessment, and validation activities across multiple enterprise data sources.
  • Develop feature engineering methodologies to support machine learning model performance and accuracy.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines supporting data ingestion, transformation, model training, and analytics delivery.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis and statistical evaluations to identify trends, correlations, and operational insights.
  • Collaborate with software developers and systems engineers to operationalize AI/ML solutions within production environments.
  • Support migration and modernization efforts involving cloud-native architectures and secure government-hosted environments.
  • Create analytical dashboards, visualizations, reports, and executive briefings to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Participate in Agile development activities including requirements analysis, sprint planning, testing, demonstrations, and release readiness reviews.
  • Support model governance, traceability, performance validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance, cybersecurity, and government requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active/current Secret Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or related technical discipline. Minimum 5 years of experience developing data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics solutions.
  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
  • Experience with Statistical Learning Models (SLM), predictive analytics, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), text analytics, semantic search, or large language model implementations.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL. Experience performing data cleansing, normalization, and quality improvement activities across large datasets. Experience with structured and unstructured data analysis. Experience developing data visualizations and presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences. Knowledge of cloud-based analytics architectures and data platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Statistics, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting Jupiter cloud-hosting environments.
  • Experience with Databricks. Experience with AWS Athena. Experience with AWS Lambda. Experience operating within AWS GovCloud environments. Experience with OpenTofu or Infrastructure-as-Code frameworks. Experience implementing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures. Experience using Apache Spark and distributed data processing technologies. Experience with MLOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated model deployment.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense, U.S. Navy, aviation maintenance, logistics, sustainment, or readiness programs.
  • Experience supporting Condition-Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) or predictive maintenance initiatives. Knowledge of technical publications, maintenance data, logistics data, or operational analytics ecosystems. Active Secret Security Clearance.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week.

Compensation: $140,000-$190,000. The salary range posted is based on the national average. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s location, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
