About CGD

The Center for Global Development (CGD) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit policy research organization in Washington, DC and London, UK that focuses on the issues and institutions that are critical to inclusive development. Through rigorous empirical research and active engagement with the global policy community, we focus on the intersections between the policy and financial priorities of low- and middle-income countries and the governments, institutions, and corporations that can be partners in delivering greater progress.

The role

The Center is seeking a Senior Fellow to lead research and develop novel policy proposals on the future of the global health architecture and the role of the multilateral development banks in global health.

The Senior Fellow’s principal responsibilities will include:

• Design and lead cutting edge research that informs policy debates
• Conduct research to advance knowledge and policy on the global health architecture. Topics are likely to include the role of the MDBs, how to focus limited aid on the poorest countries, and how to reshape global pooled procurement, among others
• Engage in related policy outreach activities, including speaking engagements, blogging, and interacting at a high level with key individuals and groups in the donor and technical communities.
• Lead or participate in expert group consultations and working groups.
• Publish blogs, papers, policy briefs, and/or short commentaries targeted to policymakers, academics, and CGD’s public audience.
• Track and respond to research and policy developments in relevant areas.
• Provide intellectual leadership as part of the global health programme
• Mobilize financial resources and contribute to programme strategy
• Oversee grant-related planning, budgeting, execution, methods and staff to achieve goals
• Supervise and mentor mid-level and junior staff and manage their performance and development
• Engage and contribute to CGD’s wider initiatives around diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as playing a key part in creating a culture which aligns with our mission and values
  
  

The successful candidate ideally possesses the following qualifications:

• A PhD or Masters degree in a relevant field to global health
• Strong global health profile and deep professional networks
• High level of expertise on the global health architecture, including the role of the MDBs
• More than 10 years’ experience in global health policy and research
• Demonstrated ability to independently plan large projects and take them to completion
• Track record of developing of developing novel policy solution, with measurable impacts.
• Successful track record in mobilizing grant funding for their ideas
• Significant knowledge of current issues and debates in global health
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as high level organizational skills
• Ability to work in a team, and inspire, manage and motivate colleagues

Role and Responsibilities:

This is a full-time position based in London or Washington D.C. The Senior Fellow will report to the Program Director. They will provide analytical and coordination support for the project. Occasional travel might be required.

Salary Ranges:

UK:

£111,825 - £136,237 per annum. Pay commensurate with education, skillset and experience.

It is the expectation that the successful candidate will be within commutable distance to the offices based in SW1. The successful candidate will need to be in the office a minimum of three days a week.

Candidates who wish to be based in the UK should have the right to live and work in the UK. Any offer of employment requiring work sponsorship is contingent on CGD and the candidate’s ability to successfully obtain the necessary work visa.

US:

$170,000 - $190,000 per annum. Pay commensurate with education, skillset, and experience.

The organization is working hybrid with all staff required to be in the office at least three days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, or Virginia. Candidates must be able to live and work in one of these locations to be considered.
