Senior Fund Accounting and Finance Automation Manager

The organisation is looking for a finance professional who combines strong fund accounting expertise with a practical interest in AI, automation and modern finance systems.
About the opportunity
This is a full-time position within a lean finance function, working directly with the Head of Finance. The successful candidate will take significant ownership across fund accounting, investor reporting and portfolio data while helping modernise and automate core finance workflows.
The role suits someone who understands the fundamentals of venture capital or private equity finance but also looks for better ways to operate, whether through AI tools, SQL, Python, Excel automation or other finance technologies.
The role
You will have broad responsibility across fund operations and accounting, supporting multiple investment funds and working closely with senior stakeholders. Alongside core finance activity, you will lead the implementation and ongoing development of an AI-enabled fund administration platform.
This is a hands-on position with scope to improve processes rather than simply maintain existing systems.
Key responsibilities
- Own fund accounting processes across multiple venture capital funds
- Support quarterly limited partner reporting and capital account statements
- Manage financial activity including capital calls, distributions, net asset value calculations and management fees
- Maintain accurate investment data, valuations and portfolio company records
- Support fund financial statements and audit processes
- Lead the implementation and calibration of an AI-enabled fund administration platform
- Identify repetitive finance processes and build more efficient automated workflows
- Use tools such as Excel macros, Power Query, SQL, Python, Airtable and AI applications where appropriate
- Support the Head of Finance with strategic projects and broader finance initiatives
Essential requirements
- Strong practical experience in fund accounting, fund administration, venture capital or private equity finance, or investment fund audit
- Solid understanding of capital calls, distributions, net asset value, management fees and fund financial statements
- Experience contributing to limited partner reporting and capital account statements
- Strong accounting fundamentals developed within investment management, professional services or a relevant finance environment
- Evidence of improving, rebuilding or automating finance workflows using tools such as Excel macros, SQL, AI applications or similar technology
- Confidence working with financial and investment data with a high level of accuracy
- Genuine interest in applying AI and automation to finance operations
- Interest in technology-led investment sectors and businesses
Nice-to-haves
- Experience within a venture capital or private equity fund
- Investment fund audit experience within an established accounting firm
- Finance, implementation, solutions engineering or solutions architecture experience within a modern finance technology company
- Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Power Query or Airtable
- Experience implementing accounting, fund administration or finance automation platforms
Location and remote setup
This is a full-time, on-site position based in San Francisco, US, with five days per week in the office. Candidates must already be able to work on-site or be willing to relocate. Visa transfers, including eligible H-1B and OPT arrangements, can be considered.
