Position Overview

Trilogy NextGen is seeking an experienced Senior Java / React Architect to support one of our long-standing financial-services customers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This is a hands-on architecture and technical leadership role focused on designing scalable, secure, and high-performing enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, React, and modern distributed-application technologies. The successful candidate will work across both backend and front-end architecture, helping define end-to-end application patterns from APIs and microservices through modern React-based user experiences.

The selected architect will work closely with engineering teams, UI developers, application architects, product owners, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to define technical direction and deliver enterprise solutions in a large financial-services environment.

This position requires working onsite in Pittsburgh, PA, five days per week. Remote and hybrid arrangements are not available.

The selected candidate must become a direct employee of Trilogy NextGen. We will not respond to or entertain C2C, third-party consulting, subcontracting, or agency submissions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and lead architecture for large-scale enterprise applications built with Java, Spring Boot, React, and related technologies.
• Design scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable full-stack application architectures.
• Provide technical leadership across application development, UI architecture, APIs, microservices, integrations, and distributed systems.
• Define architectural patterns for modern React-based user interfaces and their integration with backend services.
• Establish standards for reusable React components, state management, API consumption, application structure, and front-end performance.
• Guide engineering teams on JavaScript/TypeScript, React hooks, component design, routing, state-management patterns, and front-end testing.
• Design and review Java-based services using modern frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot.
• Define API and integration strategies supporting web and enterprise applications.
• Provide guidance on microservices, event-driven architecture, messaging, and asynchronous processing.
• Collaborate with UX, UI, cloud, infrastructure, security, data, and DevOps teams on end-to-end solution design.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide architectural guidance to both backend and front-end engineering teams.
• Evaluate existing systems and recommend modernization, refactoring, and migration approaches.
• Guide application performance, scalability, resiliency, observability, accessibility, and fault-tolerance strategies.
• Ensure solutions align with enterprise security, risk, compliance, and technology standards.
• Mentor senior developers and engineers and promote strong software-engineering practices.
• Translate complex business and technical requirements into clear architecture and implementation strategies.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of software-development experience with significant experience in enterprise application environments.
• Several years of experience in an application architect, solution architect, or senior technical-lead role.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Java and modern Java development practices.
• Strong experience with Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience with React and modern front-end application architecture.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
• Experience architecting applications that combine React front ends with Java-based APIs and microservices.
• Strong understanding of React components, hooks, routing, state management, and reusable UI patterns.
• Experience with Redux, Redux Toolkit, Context API, Zustand, or similar state-management approaches.
• Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3, responsive design, and modern web-development practices.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures.
• Strong experience with RESTful APIs and enterprise application integration.
• Experience with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and messaging technologies.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Understanding of application performance, scalability, resiliency, and high-availability design.
• Experience with enterprise security, authentication, authorization, and secure development practices.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience working in Agile software-development environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with architects, engineers, product teams, UX teams, and business stakeholders.
• Ability and willingness to work onsite in Pittsburgh, PA, five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within banking, financial services, payments, or another regulated industry is preferred but not required.
• Experience with modern React frameworks or supporting technologies such as Next.js, Material UI, Tailwind CSS, or similar tools.
• Experience with front-end testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright.
• Experience with micro-frontend architecture or large-scale enterprise design systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized application platforms.
• Experience with Kafka, MQ, or other enterprise messaging/event-streaming technologies.
• Experience with API gateways and enterprise API-management platforms.
• Familiarity with domain-driven design and event-driven architecture.
• Experience modernizing large-scale legacy Java and web applications.
• Experience with observability technologies, distributed tracing, logging, and application-performance monitoring.
• Experience designing applications for high-volume transactional environments.
• Familiarity with web accessibility standards such as WCAG and ARIA.
• Experience working in highly regulated environments with formal risk, security, and governance requirements.
