The Role:

  • This role provides strategic leadership for accounting operations, financial reporting, governance, compliance, and accounting policy execution across North America. This leader is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, overseeing accounting operations, and leading financial analysis that supports executive decision-making.
  • The role partners with senior business leaders, auditors, regulators, tax professionals, and finance stakeholders to ensure financial integrity while developing talent and driving continuous improvement across accounting processes. The position requires a strong combination of technical accounting expertise, business acumen, strategic thinking, and people leadership.

What You Will Do:

Financial Accounting Leadership

  • Lead all North America financial accounting activities, including general ledger governance, financial reporting, and accounting operations.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant internal and external financial reporting.
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Direct accounting strategies that support business growth and operational excellence.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 requirements.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and reporting governance frameworks.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors on audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance initiatives.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures aligned with corporate objectives.

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Prepare and review financial analyses that support strategic business decisions.
  • Lead forecasting and reporting efforts for income, expenses, earnings, and business performance metrics.
  • Provide executive leadership with financial insights, trends, risks, and recommendations.
  • Support long-range planning and enterprise-wide financial initiatives.

Governance & Risk Management

  • Ensure organizational compliance with financial regulations and governance standards.
  • Identify emerging accounting risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership regarding accounting policies, regulatory changes, and financial impacts.
  • Drive process optimization and modernization initiatives.

What You Will Bring:

  • Accounting and Finance Knowledge: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional qualifications.
  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Ability to lead complex accounting and finance functions and align financial priorities, resources, and decisions with broader business objectives.
  • AI-Enabled Accounting Transformation: Ability to identify and lead responsible applications of artificial intelligence, automation, and Snowflake-supported analytics that improve account reconciliations, detect anomalies and variances, strengthen data quality, and increase the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of financial close and reporting processes.
  • Executive Communication and Stakeholder Influence: Ability to explain complex financial matters clearly, provide well-supported recommendations, and influence executive leaders, external auditors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • People Leadership and Talent Development: Ability to build, coach, and lead high-performing accounting teams by setting clear expectations, developing talent, promoting collaboration, and reinforcing accountability.
  • U.S. GAAP and Technical Accounting: Advanced knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the ability to apply accounting guidance to complex transactions, financial reporting matters, and business decisions.
  • Internal Controls and SOX Compliance: Strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, internal control frameworks, risk assessment, control testing, remediation, and financial governance practices.
  • Financial Services Industry Knowledge: Understanding of accounting practices, regulatory expectations, and business considerations within captive finance, banking, equipment finance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Multinational and Multi-Entity Accounting: Ability to lead accounting operations across multiple legal entities, business units, or geographic markets while maintaining consistent accounting policies, controls, and reporting standards. ​‌

Compensation & Benefits:

Summary Pay Range: $165,948.00 - $265,524.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance, and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.

Additional Information:

  • Onsite, 5 days per week based at the Cat Financial head office in Nashville, TN.

This position requires working onsite five days a week.
