The Team

THS Pathology-LGH provides Pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania. THS Pathology aims to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, providing patients with no out of pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The team at THS Pathology comprises a large team involving multi-disciplinary scientists, technicians, non-technical staff and Pathologists.

The Role

The role is being established to support Point‑of‑Care Testing (POCT) services at LGH and primary health care centres across the northern region of Tasmania. It will support the implementation of POCT governance throughout the region and will require travel, although it will be primarily based at LGH. The position will work in close coordination with multidisciplinary teams across pathology and broader clinical services, and will serve as the primary point of contact for all POCT matters within the region.

You will need

• Demonstrated post‑qualification experience as a medical scientist, with at least two years experience in establishing, testing and supporting the use of Point of Care Testing (POCT) devices within a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
• Demonstrated organisational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet operational requirements.
• A working knowledge of medical laboratory accreditation processes, quality assurance and quality control principles, NPAAC requirements relevant for the supervision of medical laboratories, including requirements for the introduction of new diagnostic methodologies.

Details of appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

• Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
  
  

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$117,272 to $126,182 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Allowances

• Please note that access to salaries beyond $123,487 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
  
  

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Professional Development Allowance of up to $1200 per annum, paid on a fortnightly, pro rata basis.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

• Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science or Applied Science or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution.
• Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology
• Where there is no relevant professional body, the essential qualification must be met
  
  

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

• Membership/Fellowship awarded by a recognised professional body
• Experience of working with Point of care devices in a hospital setting
