About the Role
Join a small, senior founding engineering team building the intelligent systems behind consumer software products. You will shape how machine learning powers useful, intuitive product experiences, from data pipelines and retrieval systems to production features used by customers.
What You'll Do
Architect and build machine learning and retrieval systems for product experiences such as categorization, summarization, enrichment, search, and personalization.
Design data pipelines to ingest, classify, enrich, and summarize large volumes of user data.
Build scalable inference infrastructure for real-time and batch workloads.
Select and fine-tune models, develop embeddings and RAG pipelines, and establish evaluation frameworks and quality metrics.
Prototype new ML-powered product ideas, then productionize successful approaches.
Work closely with product, design, and engineering to make complex AI capabilities intuitive and useful.
What We're Looking For
5 or more years of relevant experience building and shipping machine learning products.
Experience taking ML-powered features from initial concept to real users, especially in personalization, ranking, search, or recommendations.
Hands-on experience developing custom ML models, including embeddings, recommendation, or personalization models, beyond prompt-based integrations alone.
Strong Python skills and experience with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, vector databases, embeddings, data pipelines, and inference infrastructure.
Background in consumer products or applied AI, with a product-focused approach to machine learning quality and user experience.
A degree in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, or a related field, plus experience at a startup or as an early engineer or founder.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is $200,000 to $300,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available.
Location
On-site in San Francisco, California. New York is also listed as a potential work location.
