The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to join the Development Platforms and Integrations team within the Information Technology and Services unit. The Senior Platform Engineer ensures the reliability, modernization, and operational excellence of critical platforms such as Cloudera, Elastic Stack. This role drives automation, ensures compliance with security and governance standards, and collaborates with diverse teams to deliver innovative, future-ready technology solutions aligned with business objectives . Act as a technical authority across core platforms, ensuring alignment with business needs and industry best practices. Principal accountabilities: Platform Architecture , Administration and Engineering : Design , deploy and ma nage platforms like Cloudera (Hadoop ecosystem, Kafka, Apache NiFi), Elastic Stack, and Dataiku (DSS), ensuring security, resilience, and performance. Drive platform modernization efforts, including hybrid cloud integration, containerization, and emerging technology adoption . Operational Excellence : L ead continuous improvement initiatives with a focus on automation, standardisation, and lifecycle management . M aintain operational runbooks and guardrails while ensuring adherence to SLAs in critical production environments . Integration and Automation : Automate provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance using tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Puppet. Develop CI/CD pipelines and integrate platforms with AD/Azure AD for authentication and access control. Monitoring and Observability : Implement monitoring solutions like Cloudera Manager, Elastic Monitoring, and OpenTelemetry to track platform health and performance. Centralize logs for analysis and troubleshooting through Elastic Stack. Collaboration and Leadership : Act as a senior advisor to technical teams, providing engineering direction and resolving complex issues . A lign platform capabilities with business objective s and m entor teams to foster continuous learning and growth . Risk and Security : Ensure compliance with audit and security standards, embed secure-by-design practices into platform architecture , and enforce encryption and vulnerability management practices. Qualifications, skills, and experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, engineering, or equivalent professional experience , with r elevant industry certifications (e.g., Cloudera Administrator, Elastic Certified Engineer, Kubernetes Administrator) highly valued. Proven experience with Cloudera (Base, Streaming, Data Flow, Data Services), Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats), and Dataiku DSS, focusing on cluster management, performance tuning, and workflow automation. Proficient in integrating platforms with Active Directory (AD) and Azure AD, and skilled in automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, Puppet) and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub. Expertise in monitoring tools (e.g., Cloudera Manager, Elastic Monitoring, OpenTelemetry) and centralized log management through Elastic Stack. Advanced knowledge of Linux (RHEL, CentOS), including scripting, backup, disaster recovery, and performance optimization. Hands-on experience with big data platforms (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Hadoop), machine learning workflows, hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), and container management (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
