Job Summary

Join our dynamic Radiology team at the Great Western Hospital as a Band 6 MRI Radiographer and play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging to our patients.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Radiographer who is ready to take the next step in their career. In this role, you will:

Perform a wide range of examinations across multiple clinical specialities

Work both autonomously and as part of a supportive, multi-professional team

Main duties of the job

This role will be based at the GWH Radiology department and at the Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon on a rotational basis.

When working in the Community Diagnostic Centre the successful candidate willwork collaboratively with GWH Radiology department to provide diagnostic examinations to the required standard.


  • To independently assess and justify referrals following practitioner guidelines where appropriate.
  • Able to interpret Clinician's requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic imaging and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic.
  • To use discretion to work outside of departmental standards when clinical circumstances necessitate i.e. undertaking additional or specialist techniques.
  • To report any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the Superintendent or Clinical Band 7.
  • To abide by the Health and Safety Code of the unit and ensure that all patients and visitors do likewise.
  • To appear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professional manner.
  • To work out of hours to support the Radiology services offered at Great Western Hospital, including occasional night and out of hours duties.

Job Description

Job responsibilities


  • To undertake diagnostic scans in the absence of a Radiologist according to agreed protocols. Administering contrast as required for the needs of the patients, ensuring safety checks are completed and accuracy in dosage.
  • To be able to use the departmental Computed Radiology Information Computer system (CRIS) as required and be conversant with the Picture Archive Communication Systems (PACS).
  • To undertake Quality Control procedures, including Quality Assurance testing for image quality and equipment safety, and to help with clinical audits.
  • To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research and to act on the findings where possible and provide statistical information on the workload when necessary.
  • To undertake any formal or informal training required to fulfil the needs of the post.
  • To undertake additional roles within the department, reviewing and facilitating compliance, and proposing changes with high standards in areas such as, but not limited to, health and safety, infection control, patient experience or manual handling.

Qualifications

Qualifications Essential


  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
  • Post-graduate certificate in MRI or equivalent training or experience
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • General Radiographic training

  • Evidence of CPD
  • Relevant study day attendance


Experience & Skills Essential


  • Extensive post graduate experience in Radiography
  • Extensive MRI experience
  • Experience of performance department Quality Assurance
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and independently
  • Experience in supervising students


Desirable


  • MRI experience
  • Cardiac MRI experience
  • CT colonography
  • Interventional experience
