Job Summary

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Radiotherapy Physicist has become available to join a team supporting a major cancer centre, located at Guy'shospital in central London and at Queen's Mary's hospital in Sidcup.

We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated radiotherapy physicist to support our extensive dosimetry service. The post holder will also be actively involved in other areas of clinical radiotherapy physics as appropriate.

Note: MPE certification is an essential requirement of this role, and applicants should be able to submit within 12 months of appointment if not certified already.

Main duties of the job

As well as the main Guy's Cancer Centre site in London Bridge, the post holder will be expected to provide support as required at Guy's Cancer at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup.

About Us

The Guy's Cancer Centre is currently equipped with nine Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators (all with SGRT), three GE CT scanners for simulation, a superficial x-ray treatment unit and Elekta HDR brachytherapy service. The centre serves a population of 1.9 million and typically treats over 4500 patients per year. Specialist services are also provided for SRS, TSEBT and TBI. There is a thriving research and education programme and close links with our university partner, King's College London.

Education & qualitifications

Essential

  • Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant subject
  • Relevant MSc or higher degree
  • Qualified to act as a Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in radiotherapy under IRMER (or able to submit application within next 12 months)
  • State registration as a Clinical Scientist

Desirable

  • Full Member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (or equivalent)

  • Advanced experience post-registration working in radiotherapy physics
  • Specialised experience in a relevant major area of radiotherapy physics

Desirable

  • Experience of involvement in original radiotherapy research or innovative service development

Knowledge & skills

  • Broad knowledge of radiotherapy techniques and clinical applications
  • Specialist knowledge in a major area of radiotherapy physics such as external beam treatment planning, radiotherapy equipment, imaging, dosimetry or brachytherapy
  • High level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from treatment planning computer system errors, equipment failure, treatment errors and incorrect dosimetry
  • Able to present scientific papers at national and international conferences
