Senior Software Engineer
Satellite Technology | Global Impact | Tech for Good
€85,000–€100,000 base salary | Espoo, Finland | Permanent
Hybrid: three days per week in the office
A satellite technology scale-up is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to take technical ownership of a flagship satellite analytics product that helps local entities, governments, and response teams respond to natural catastrophes in near-real-time around the world.
It’s a hands-on Python role, shaping cloud-native architecture and working closely with analytics specialists to turn their work into reliable production software. There’s an established customer base, ownership over technical decisions, and potential to progress into team leadership.
Senior Software Engineer responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing backend services, analytical pipelines and customer-facing functionality.
- Making pragmatic architecture decisions that improve reliability, performance and maintainability.
- Delivering changes safely into live environments through meaningful testing and effective CI/CD.
- Contributing to monitoring, incident response and on-call support.
- Supporting other engineers through code reviews, mentoring and collaborative problem-solving.
Senior Software Engineer requirements:
- Experience designing, delivering and operating cloud-native production software.
- Backend engineering experience, alongside PostgreSQL, Docker and CI/CD.
- Frontend development experience, ideally with React/TypeScript.
- Clear communication and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A considered approach to automation and AI-assisted development, supported by testing and review.
The core stack includes Python/FastAPI, React/TypeScript and PostgreSQL. Other backend backgrounds (e.g. Node/Typescript, C#, Rust, Go) will be considered if you have some Python exposure, with additional flexibility for proven Staff or Lead-level engineers.
AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, event-driven systems and workflow orchestration experience would be advantageous. Previous geospatial or remote-sensing experience is beneficial but not essential.
Senior Software Engineer benefits:
- Relocation support provided e.g. flights, 4 weeks accomodation, agency support throughout.
- Visa sponsorship available
- Flexible benefits budget of up to €1,200 per year, with options including sport, culture, wellbeing, transport, subsidised lunches, bicycle leasing and additional language learning.
- Up to six weeks of work-anywhere flexibility annually
- Comprehensive occupational healthcare
- Paid parental leave after six months’ employment: three months’ full pay for the birthing parent and five weeks for the non-birthing parent.
- Up to €500 towards eligible language courses
- One additional paid personal day and one paid volunteering day each year.
- Partner or family travel support after probation
This Senior Software Engineer position requires attendance at the Espoo office three days per week. Senior Software Engineers based overseas must be willing to relocate to Finland.
