"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads. We need agents that can act on their own."
Dr Emmett Brown, if he had been a product manager in 2026 instead of a scientist in 1985.
Great Scott. Most companies are still bolting a chatbot onto their product and calling it AI. Our client is building agents that do not just assist. They act. Autonomously, at scale, in the moments that matter most. This role owns that system.
The company
Our client is a Series B, New York based company at the intersection of consumer finance and applied AI. They have built a platform that uses data and AI to fix a large, old and famously clunky corner of financial services, the kind of thing that has looked the same since 1955, and they have done it in a way that works better for the businesses using it and for the everyday people on the other end of it.
Tens of billions of dollars have moved through the platform, more than twenty million consumers have interacted with it, and well known consumer finance brands are customers who stay and expand. Around a hundred people in downtown Manhattan, Series B funded, now growing from one product into a multi product platform. We can share more once we speak.
The role
The company has early traction and strong conviction that AI agents can own the most consequential conversations in its product. What it needs now is a senior or staff PM who turns that conviction into a platform. One that expands what agents can own, accelerates how fast they ship, and changes the unit economics of the business.
You will architect how agents reason, decide and execute across complex workflows, then build the systems that make them reliable, measurable and continuously improving. You will bring product rigour to a domain that has been moving fast without it, and set the standard every other PM in the company learns from. Think of it as the flux capacitor. Nothing else works without it.
What you will actually do
You will own the AI agent strategy. Not a feature backlog, but a sequenced, opinionated roadmap tied to business outcomes. You will decide what gets built, what gets bought, and when to switch vendors as the landscape shifts, and you will spot the product, technical and regulatory constraints six to twelve months out and design around them before they become blockers. Product, Engineering, Operations and go to market leadership will treat you as a sparring partner who pushes the whole company to be more ambitious with AI.
You will own agent quality and the pace of iteration. You will define what good looks like across prompt engineering, conversation design and real world performance, and build the evaluation frameworks that measure it. You will own the full agent UX, from conversation flows to authentication and multi topic handling, designed for user trust and measurable conversion, and you will work with Legal and Compliance on patterns that keep things compliant without slowing anyone down. No more alternate timelines where the agent says one thing on Monday and something else on Tuesday.
You will own revenue impact, prioritising the workflows that drive efficiency and incremental revenue, and partnering with go to market to expand adoption.
And you will shape how the whole company builds with AI. The playbooks, evaluation frameworks, prompt standards and vendor criteria that let other PMs ship AI features without you in the room, and the AI fluency across Operations, go to market, Legal and leadership that leads to better decisions about where AI fits.
What we are looking for
You have eight or more years in product management, including real time on AI or LLM powered products such as conversational AI or agents. You have hands on experience with prompt engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks or conversation design. You are comfortable working with system architecture and API design, and you have built and launched new products or features from scratch.
Pure feature factory backgrounds, or PMs who have only ever managed a roadmap someone else wrote, will not get this thing to 88 miles per hour.
What will make you stand out
Building conversational AI at scale at a high growth company is a strong signal. So is familiarity with AI agent platforms and their trade offs, a track record of build versus buy decisions for AI infrastructure, and experience coaching other PMs on AI. If you have shipped in ambiguous, fast moving technical domains and enjoyed it, you will fit right in.
The people who thrive here know that one decision about how an agent behaves ripples through thousands of conversations, the way one small change in 1955 rewrites everything after it.
The practical bits
New York City, office based. Compensation is up to $250K USD base plus meaningful equity in a Series B company. Relocation is on the table for strong candidates outside New York (a move within 60 days of starting), and visa transfers are supported, with new visas discussed case by case. No DeLorean provided, but the subway is close.
Why this one is worth a look
Most PM roles ask you to ship features. This one asks you to define how an AI driven company builds with agents for years to come, at the exact moment it moves from one product to many. Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.
